Guest guest
I saw it yesterday....it was magical! I thoroughly enjoyed it. I skimmed through some of your emails earlier when you were discussing the one boy on the train...as if he was being portrayed as a typical "asperger kid." I have a question for those of you who have seen it. Does your kid act like that? Because my daughter absolutely never has acted like that. Sometimes I wonder if Beth really does have aspergers. She's definitely challenged with social anxiety (too) and maybe that makes a big difference in her particular circumstances. But she's never been the 'know it all' Ms. Encyclopedia personality like the boy on the train. Just curious. *-*-*-*-*-* Maralee*-*-*-*-*-*-* Ending a sentence with a preposition is something up with which we should not put. - Winston Churchill
Guest guest
Maralee, Though Tyler will deny it to his dying day (and has already insisted it is NOTHING like him now or ever) it is exactly how others see him! He gets facts into his head that are irrelevant and that he just has to share, doesn't seem to notice the social cues, is pretty rigid some of the time, and definately has the " center of attention " needyness down! Yet, Tyler had a hard time with some of his sensory issues during the movie. The roller coaster effects scared him and made him feel a bit nausious. It was so real that he was gripping his arm rests and leaning with the main character. He loved the movie, but boy was he overwhelmed at times! I would say that the portrayl of the " know it all " was very much like Tyler at ages K-4th grades and we still see times that he reverts back to that even now! ~hugs~ Rabecca > I saw it yesterday....it was magical! I think this is a key part of Asperger’s at least that is how my son is. He is 12 and right now is into World War 1, Star Wars, Tin Tin…since a young age he has had an area of interest that he learned everything about….skeletal system, solar system, dogs, cats, gears, locks, keys(antique), world history, piates, medival weapons, Celtics….I could go on. To me the this is a key component of Asperger’s. He was the “little Profeesor” of the classroom, also the class policman, until he realized how mad the kids got at him! ,12, loved the book, Polar Express, when he was younger, but wasn’t keen on the movie. does fit the ‘Asperger’s’ profile….he does have a couple of buddies which have come over since he was young, and will be here this week of and on…..Gail
Guest guest
hey gail! Beth has had those areas of obsession (special interest) over the years: dolpins, scooby doo, harry potter, pokemon, titanic, lord of the rings series, japanese animated movies, etc. Right now she enjoys things, but the thing she is most obsessed with now (at 16) is her boyfriend, which is probably the most 'normal' obsession thus far! maralee Marilee, does Beth have areas of special interest where she wants to learn everything about the subject?
