LIONHEART school for AS in GA

Ok you all !!

My best friend from Michigan in childhood, now lives in GA, actually THREE of my best friends from childhood and college, all live in GA now. Anyway, I wrote to her online and have not heard from her online in ages. She only sends Christmas cards. She is "retired from CNN " right now and enjoying being a full time mom and active at her church. This is what she wrote to me in response to my note to her just now as she responded back about the Aspergers school in GA. Turns out that it is right at her church!! WOW. Here is what she said ( cut and paste)

....I am familiar Lionheart...they have their

school on our church grounds!   Wow, what a small

world.  I do not have any experience with the staff,

except for the that fact that our church Christian

Education Director left our church to go work for

Lionheart a few years ago.  Her name is

Provow...is is awesome!  She loves the school and

loves working there.  When I was chair of our church

Mission Committee, I held a fundraiser dinner at

church for Lionheart.  Many of the parents and staff

attended too...they were all great.  I understand the

school has been featured on CNN I believe, and other

networks for the great work they do.  I believe the

director has even gone to Washington, DC, to solicit

funds/support.  I wish I would have recieved your

e-mail earlier, as I was over at church this morning

and I would have picked up a Lionheart brochure for

you.  I'll grab one on Sunday and mail it off to you.

Lionheart is a great school and program and takes all children on the Autistic spectrum. You can see their website at http://www.thelionheartschool.com/ . One of my Aspergers clients we have just placed there privately at public expense. The school system had failed him in so many ways, esp. with the social aspect. He was severely bullied and teased and had become depressed and suicidal. I would highly recommend Lionheart!!

There are also some other schools in Atlanta not specific for Autism/Aspergers but are very good. You can check out The Porter School in Alpharetta www.porterschoo.com and Joan Teach runs an amazing school in Decatur called Lullwater www.mindspring.com/~lullwater .

I refer high functioning older children to The Cottage School www.cottageschool.org .
