Back from ER visit

It's been a long 2 days for Graham and our family. Graham took a nose dive and

got worse. He added fever to the cough and congestion. So we went back to the

Dr and she decided to do yet another blood test. But this time she did the

usual blood tests, blood cultures and also a chest xray.

It seemed like forever before we had any answers (actually it was 5-6 hours). I

was beginning to lose track of time. When the labs and xrays finally came back,

the labs indicated an increase in his WBC (not big though) and his xrays showed

infiltration in his mid lobes. It all confused the Dr because according to her

the labs indicated bacteria and the xray indicated viral.

Needless to say she felt we would likely need IV antibiotics so she sent us to

the childrens hospital where our immuno is. A 2-3 hour drive later, we find

ourselves in the ER with xrays, labs and 2 doctors looking Graham over. Finally

at 3AM they decided it was viral and that the xray really didn't indicate

anything in the lungs. So they sent us home with another round of steroids.

Now mind you, I didn't care that my day started with the first Dr visit at 2:30.

But all the waiting and then a 2+ hour drive with the expectation that we would

be staying ONLY to be sent back home was almost more than I could take.

I guess the good news is we are all home, exhausted but home. I just hate that

there are such differing opinions and all that time, money and energy went into

what seemed like a very unnecessary visit. I just hope all this doesn't

snowball and we end up back in the hospital.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Kim, mom to Linz and Graham (Brutons)
