Guest guest
My sister has back yard laying chickens and would like a Barred Rock breed or a unique colored egg-layer like that to add to her mix. She can't place order for just one. If any has an extra one that they don't mind parting with to a good home, please contact me off-list. She is in the northern Mpls suburbs but will travel. Thanks! Guest guest
Depending on how many chickens she has, how old they are, and some other info you probably wouldn't want to add any more. I have raised backyard birds for a few years (don't anymore) and chickens become downright evil when new birds are added to the flock, especially young ones. They will fight and might never fully integrate into the flock. I had 4 or 5 adults and got some new babies one year (once they feathered out), when I put the young ones in they pecked one of them halfway to death. (they had plenty of room, healthy etc.) and when they finally found their place in the pecking order, the 'new' flock slept on the henhouse roof, they were never welcome inside to sleep. they only went in to lay then left the nest boxes. if she ads more, be prepared to supervise and separate. it's just sad to see your babies become henpecked! if she's dead set on it...A friend of mine just got some birds, pretty young. she got 4 different breeds, in singles. anoka farm 763 421 0223, 7435 hwy 10 w > > My sister has back yard laying chickens and would like a Barred Rock breed or a unique colored egg-layer like that to add to her mix. Guest guest
& all, Whenever you add an animal, move animals, change things around, change your animals' schedules, etc., use both Bach Rescue Remedy and Bach Walnut flower essences in their water. Put four drops in the water pail or pan. Or put four drops in a plant mister bottle and spray the air, the animals' faces and backsides (the mucus membranes absorb the flower essences really well). This treatment should help the critters adjust to the changes nicely.
