Guest guest
Lorri, I just finished helping fold newsletters at the Jr. High where my oldest son attends and next year will attend. I casual mentioned to my oldest sons counselor about and a need for an 504 or IEP. I asked her when I should start and how to go about it. She said the first thing to do is go back to the elementary school and tell them you want a SST meeting. Remember my 504 is a " handshake 504 " because I know the teachers so well its worked for us............At this meeting there would be 's 6th grade teacher, elementary school physiologist.......I'll also bring a letter from 's physiologist, an RSP teacher from the Jr. high would come with the Jr. High counselor. We would all sit down and discuss 's issues and at that meeting we would decide what would work best for IEP or 504. She encouraged me to start the process in January as it takes time to set up the meetings. Well thought I 'd pass it on. Someone passed on a great sight called slaw.com It has alot of info on IEP and 504..............I need to start researching but this looks like a great place to start. le 11, Selective Antibody Def., IVIG for 4 years, every 3 weeks. Guest guest
le, Thanks so much! If you only new how much I needed to hear this. I came home to Report card today and even though we have a 504 plan( made up between the nurse and myself and then given to the teacher) and on that plan we discuss absences she was still graded down due to her being absent 15 times during the first reporting period. I came down stairs to send the principal a message to let her know how upset I was and there in front of my eyes was your note. I asked her to schedule a SST meeting and she said it wasn't necessary. I have sent a message to the principal at the JR High and to the Superintendent. I can't stand the feeling of a run around. Thanks again for your knowledge.
