Guest guest
Hi there! It's been awhile since I last posted. Sure missed you all,. Catching up on past postings now. A couple weeks ago I got a herniated disc from lifting furniture. Since I am not a spring chicken anymore, I shouldn't be doing heavy lifting . Tsk. Tsk. I learned my lesson the hard way again. So my back was out of commission and I could hardly sit down to email and post like I used to. Could hardly walk. Three weeks into it and I am slowly healing. My kombucha making was put aside for awhile, and now I am replenishing my stock. Back is getting better but I can only stay at the computer for a few minutes at a time. I noticed that after my injury, I wanted to drink so much KT morning, noon and night. I drank more than my usual cup in the morning and evening. I think I drank at least a quart a day. Maybe it was my body asking for it, for better blood circulation, who knows. But after 2 1/2 weeks, I didn't drink as much. My body probably didn't need it as much anymore. Wondering if others have had similar cravings for KT when injured or sick. Update on kombucha: 1) I made two batches of 2 gallon KT in the water dispenser crocks. Same recipe for both, but the other one wasn't done till the 11th day compared to 7 days for the other one. Have no idea why the change in brewing periods? Maybe the kind of scobies in them? Had 3 scobies in each. 2) We will be gone 3 weeks soon and would like to know what to do with the scobies being left at home. I know you can put acidic KT for a scoby hotel. How acidic? Right now I have several glass jars with about 4 to 5 inches high of acidic KT for the scobies. Separated them by 3s or 4s. They have been brewed for 2 to 3 weeks so are very sour and vinegary. Should I leave the scobies there till I get back, or put like less acidic KT like KT just brewed for a week? Or perhaps new sugar tea mixture? Which is the best method to avoid mold and to not hurt the KT. I was hoping to leave them as is in this very sour KT till we get back so less work for me. But won't the scobies starve three weeks with no new sugar tea mixture? 2) We are finishing off all the KT in Pellegrino bottles so I don't leave any KTs at room temp in bottles with caps when we leave. Don't want to come home to glass shards. The ones in wine bottles with corks can be left on the shelf or in the ref. I sure like my problem of too many scobies and too much KT! This is the problem I have been wanting for so long! :-) I just heard one of my corked bottles pop! 3) I am trying to make a baby huey scoby right now. Used very acidic slightly hibiscus infused green tea KT to grow a scoby. It's two weeks now and 3/4th of an inch. No scoby used in it. It made its own scoby. I hope to get an inch long one before we vacation. Now tell me, is this a mother of vinegar or is it still a scoby? I still don't know the difference between a kombucha MOV and kombucha scoby? Hope to get my limbs and muscles in tip top shape for our trip, so trying to take it easy these days. Hope you can enlighten me with my questions again. Must go now and lie down and put the cork back on the bottle. Hurts to sit too long at the computer. To kombucha! Idy
