ADHD/OCD

We're in exactly the same boat here with my son. My two girls were textbook

ADHD (no OCD) and exhibited the classic symptoms. I never saw that in my son,

but definitely the OCD. When the ADHD diagnosis came I was quite surprised.

He does take Strattera along with the Zoloft and Abiliby and I don't see any

improvement attention wise. I think in a case like this it's hard to

distinguish whether it's true ADHD or the lack of concentration caused by the

anxiety

from the OCD. Anxiety is just so broad in terms of symptoms - it's so hard to

tell where the anxiety starts and stops, but rather goes round and round.

My daughter does not have ADHD, so I can't speak to that. She does have OCD

and recurrent depression and takes 200 mg of Zoloft. Eventually this wasn't

enough for her and we added Seroquel. She had a lot of trouble with obsessive

thinking. I may be wrong, but I don't think SSRIs are done by weight or age.

Personally, I think your daughter would have more success with a higher

dosage. Good luck. Kim

She is on 50 mg

of Zoloft. She is 9 years old and weighs about 60 pounds. I would like

to try increasing her Zoloft and seeing if that helps her manage her

thoughts (and concentration) better. Any thoughts out there on her

dosage???

Anyway my daughter was on Strattera for ADHD and Zoloft for OCD. The

Strattera seemed to " poop out " , so her doc put her on Ritalin. She

warned me that her OCD symptoms may get worse with the Ritalin. She was

right, they have. When I told her this, she suggested that we bump up

her Zoloft to balance her out. I am bothered with the idea of

increasing her Zoloft because of a side effect from Ritalin. Sooo, we

are going to give it a shot without the med for ADHD.

Meanwhile her OCD has been bad lately. She has a horrible problem with

self doubt and confessing. Any statement that she makes is quickly

followed by " well, at least I think so, well maybe not " . She also

confesses any negative thought that pops into her mind. She is on 50 mg

of Zoloft. She is 9 years old and weighs about 60 pounds. I would like

I have read about behavioral therapy for ADHD, but I am thinking that

would be more for impulsiveness, and not for concentration. What kind

of therapy could possibly address the inability to concentrate?

Please help!!!
