Hi everyone. We saw our doctor yesterday. I feel kind of abandoned

and broken hearted. My child has gone through med changes. At the

beginning of the med changes he got worse and it did get better but

we have no improvement from what thing were before the med changes.

We don't have much for ocd experts here in Alberta but our doctor is

considered the best child psyciatrist in Alberta with lot's of

experience treating ocd. He told us yesterday that there is nothing

more that he can do for us. This is after 3 yrs. of med. changes

with nothing that lasts for very long. He does know a ocd expert

for adults about 3 hours from here that he'll send us to but he

thinks he may tell us that this is something that we'll just have to

except and help our child except it. He suffers and I can't stand

the thought of him having to spend his whole life like this. I've

been telling him for 3 yrs now that he'll get better but he just has

to be patient and keep trying things. He hates his life because of

ocd. I could never tell him that it's not going to get better. I

feel so broken hearted.

My child has never had any " real " erp or cbt done. We have never

been able to find anyone to do it. We have fortunatly just found

someone an hour from here that does it privatly out of her home and

also has lots of experience. We're on a waiting list so it'll be

about 3 months before she can see him. It is also very expensive

and not covered by our health care system. If it'll work, we'll

come up with the money. I just feel like she's our last hope and

I'm scared that it won't work. Our doctor has always told us that

he thought our child's anxiety was to high for this to be

successful. I sure hope he's wrong.

I feel terrible for you and your son after reading your post, . Have

you tried lots of different med combinations? Have you ever tried inpatient? I

am sure that would be a difficult thing to do, but there are some places that

are suppose to be really good for OCD as inpatient. I know you must feel

very low hearing that from your psych, but please don't give up. Maybe the

doctor you mentioned might hold the key for you. Goo luck to you and your son.

My child is 12. There are no universities near us and there are no

ocd treatment centres for inpatient treatment. My child was in a

psycriatrict ward to get on his latest med combo (prozac and

anafranil). He has had a few ssris augumented with other non ssri med

but non of them ever made any difference. Our doctor had mentioned

that the ocd specialist in Edmonton may suggest IV clomipramine but

seemed kind of negative about it. Does anyone here know anything

about this or it's side effects?

I'm grateful for the support here. I'm really hoping that cbt is

going to help. My child is not happy about the idea. He doesn't even

want to talk about it but I'm hoping that this psycologist will be

able to convince him to give it a good try. Since he won't allow any

conversation about it I'm not sure, but I think that he thinks she

going to try to force him to just stop his compulsions. I wish I

could explain it more to him but he won't listen.
