" I did just read Bev Ferguson's

procedure for it on Kombucha Unveiled and she uses a sun tea jar. "

Yet again that reference to " sun tea " Time I found out what it was so I looked

it up.

First (top) reference at http://www.snopes.com/food/prepare/suntea.asp

said it could be dangerous, but explained how to make it in any case and I

reckon, if I started now, I might have some ready by 2010 . The next 2 showed

how to make it and two different containers. Next refused to load this side of

Christmas. Then came another warning.

So.... I now know what it is and how to make it, but still not a clue as to what

a " Sun Tea " jar is?

? ???? ??

, do you mean all the stuff at the bottom of each e-mail (after

replying to somebody else's e-mail)? If yes, I've tried very hard to get

rid of them but they just won't delete.

It is the way this group has been set up in the administration. I run a few

and I have found that you can set up your group not to allow

any graphics, HTML, or anything else other than plain old text, as this

group does. I never go for the plain text option because of some of the

problems it can cause.

If a group is set up to allow photos, graphics, coloured text, and smilies,

it can be a lot of help for the members and it is much easier to handle the

e-mails coming through - and you can delete anything you don't want.

If you set up a group for just plain text, you tend to get all the rubbish

that accumulates at the bottom of e-mails and it is almost impossible to

delete without a lot of hard work.

Would the owner/mods be willing to change it so that HTML graphics and

photos could be posted in the actual e-mails, I wonder?

, a sun tea jar is a gallon size clear glass jar offten with a spout

near the bottom. I just bought myself one and the spout leaks. :-(

Thankfully I caught it & put my kombucha in an old pickle jar before it was

all over the place. I am having a hard time finding large jars.

Alisha, yes *sigh*, I'n always hunting for glass jars, especially big ones.

I have never yet seen a glass container with a spout here in England, but

I struck gold yesterday at TKMax when I found a beautifully shaped 6 litre

glass jar..... that's just over 1 1/2 US gallons. It's already got a brew

in it, standing on top of the kitchen cupboard with all my other lovely

jars.

I'm getting quite big upper arm muscles these days lifting these jars up

and down with much strength and concentration ;-)

I guess I don't have a clue what you all are talking about.

I only see the kombucha links at the bottom of the emails,

and I don't see anything wrong with those.

,

I think it's kinda funny that you have all those tails. Yes, it's

annoying, but humorous too, in its own way. Your struggle is what I

get a chuckle over, mostly. Sorry to be laughing at your expense, but

you are welcome to return the favor any time you wish.

As to sun tea, I believe I can address your question, being as I am a

Southern California transplant (all the way to Northern California!),

and I do believe Sun Tea is very much a California thing.

You can brew sun tea in any container. You do not need a " sun tea

jar " to do it, any more than you need a brandy snifter to drink

brandy. (okay, that's not the best analogy as one is a brewing and

the other a drinking vessel, but bear with me....)

How to brew: fill a jar/vessel with water. Add tea bags (more than

you would use for hot tea) stick in the sun. (That might be where you

Brits may run into a snag). Wait till it looks like tea (a couple of

hours). Serve over ice. Lemon/sugar/mint sprigs optional.

The " Sun Tea Jar " is convenient, as you can serve right out of the

jar, through the handy little spigot at the bottom. So you can brew

and serve your tea poolside, and not have to go inside for a pitcher.

Get it?

I can post pictures if you want to see my set up. I have been brewing

in a Sun Tea Jar for over a year now. I don't use the lid, just

rubber band a hanky over the rim. The lid of the jar is handy for sun

tea too, it has a built in carrying handle, and a little flap that

opens over a small hole opening, so you can pour it out without

having to unscrew the whole lid and pour from the larger opening.

Clear as mud?

I really like my brewing method, as I can bottle right from a spigot

and not have to use a ladle or something else. It works well for me.

The Jars are pretty easy to find for around $5 in Hardware stores,

grocery stores (in the summer, usually), big box stores like walmart

(which I refuse to frequent), or my favorite: Thrift stores and

garage sales!!!

Hope that helps. Meanwhile, I say, if you got a tail; wag it!

Blessings,

Beth

Hi ,

I don't plan to make sun tea, I am not that patient. I am just going

to use the sun tea jar for my kombucha. A sun tea jar is just a nice

1 gal. size glass jar with a spigot.

Hi Bev,

I did see your other letter about a potter making you a larger vessel

for your kombucha. How nice!

so the jars may be a touch thin on the ground

, you don't even need the sun to do a proper job. Just steep your tea

in water and leave it set. Takes a bit longer without the sun, but it still

works.

I made sure I " de-tailed " that one before I launched it, but that's no
