Guest guest
<<My son thinks he has ADD on top of OCD. He has a psychiatric appointment coming up in a few weeks. What sorts of questions should I ask the doctor about this? How will she determine if he does have ADD? He is not at all hyperactive unless he has way too little sleep and way too much Mountain Dew. He says he has trouble focusing in school, and that it is not OCD thoughs interfering. Any of your thoughts would be appreciated!>> Is it possible that his worrying about ADD is an OCD doubt? Just because I think many with many kids (with ADHD, but *maybe* not ADD with hyperactivity) would be diagnosed earlier than the teen years. Does your ds find himself unable to concentrate - constantly distracted - when asked to do a task he finds booooring? Constantly forgetting things? There is long questionnaire the dr. will probably have you & a teacher or someone else fill out. Typically, too much caffeine doesn't affect kids with ADD/ADHD very badly - for some, it actually calms them down, much like a stimulant like Ritalin. My son with ADHD's behavior does not change much at all, even with a lot caffeine. With Adderall - he is much more patient, less impulsive, less frustrated over minor upsets, less argumentative, better able to do something boring.
