Guest guest
Hi I'm going to take a guess that you did not add any real(Camellia Sinensis) tea to your green yerba mate. For your non camellia sinensis teas (tisanes) like yerba mate, rooibos, honeybush, lapach, straight herbals and fruits you need to add some real tea. This can be black, green, oolong or white tea. I use 2 parts tisanes to 1 part real tea. Some prefer to use equal part. Experiment and go with the taste you like best. My wife like to add 1.75 liter bottle of KT to her bath water one a week. She feel it gives her softer skin. Guest guest
thank you for your response, bill. you are correct--i didn't add any camellia sinesis tea. for the future, would black gunpowder tea work? and should i still use a little of the sour brew to start my new batch, or will that sour the new one as well? would it be better for me to use a little bit of apple cider vinegar? thanks for the bath tip. would this be okay even if the kombucha is sour? If it's proper tea, yes! Funny, my gunpowder tea is green and I do use it a lot. You can use white, green, oolong, black, open leaf or tea bags for your brew. That gives you a BIG choice! > should i still use a little of the sour brew to start my new batch, Definitely. Just enough to be beneficial for the brew. You can be quite generous wit the acidic starter. Recommended amount is about a 10th of the volume of liquid, e.g. 100ml per litre/quart. > would it be better for me to use a little bit of apple cider vinegar? Definitely not! Since you are blessed with proper acidic Kombucha you could not have a more perfect starter. With apple cider you would have to make sure that it is properly pasteurised (heated to boiling) as you do not want to introduce the apple-cider culture (mother of vinegar) into the Kombucha brew Stick with your acidic Kombucha. It's perfect! > thanks for the bath tip. would this be okay even if the kombucha is sour? The sourer the better! Guest guest
oops, i guess i meant green gunpowder tea! i just got some at my coop. it was organic and fair trade and soooo expensive! it was like $19/lb! i mean i only got about $3.50 worth, but does anyone know where i can buy cheaper fair trade/organic tea? my coop pretty much gives us almost wholesale so i'm doubting it, but i guess i don't need to use a whole lot at once, so it's fine. it smells awesome. i just made it last night, let it sit overnight to cool, and put it with my scobies (all of the babies it seemed to have with its first brew!) this morning. and does anyone have any recipes for other skin products/tonics with kombucha? maybe kombucha soap???? that would be amazing, i bet. love, emily philadelphia, pa! Guest guest
Hello , You said you are from Philadelphia, well there is an Asian market there, and also one in Atlantic City. I know of several Asian ladies who go shopping there every so often to stock up on things they can't get locally. So since you are right there you should be able to find them and save money as well. I've never been there, but friends have gotten teas, herbs, and noodles, etc. for me on their trips. Also try Oriental Restaurants. I get my Oolong and Green tea from The Five Star Restaurant, and it is $1 for a box of 20 teabags. It makes excellant Kt, and before I learned about Kt, I used it for years and it did fantastic improvements in my health, so I know it is great tea. If your Kt is becoming 'sour' quickly maybe you aren't using enough sugar. I started with only a cup of natural sugar to 3 1/2 cups of boiled water with 5-7 teabags, and it made great tea, but became tart in 10 days. Someone suggested raising the sugar and I now use 1 1/3 cups of sugar and I like the results even more. Play with your recipe a little, and develop Kt that pleases your taste more. Also check the archives, as they are a treasure trove of information from long experienced brewers. take care, Edith I'm new and have sour kombucha!
