Today was a horrible day. I am so confused.

My 9 year old daughter, who has been on Prozac for only 2 weeks now

saw her behavioural pediatrician (no child psychiatrist in the area)

today. My daughter suffers from severe obsessional intrusive

thoughts. The doctor gave us a presciption for Risperdel. I'm not

sure of the spelling because I didn't fill the prescription. My

daughter had to have an EKG before before she can take this

medication. The doctor mentioned the possibility of the drug having

side effects, like not being able to move your neck, or facial

muscles. The doctor said if this happened, they would likely treat

the condition with Benadryl. I told the doctor that my daughter is

allergic to antihistamines. She has had two severe reactions which

caused rapid, irregular heart palpitations.

The doctor didn't seem concerned, and gave me the prescription

anyway. I just looked it up on the net, and the first thing I saw

was the severe side effects it could cause. I am just shaking.

Does anyone know of this drug and what class of drug it is?

The doctor is also going to investigate the possibility of PANDAS

since my daughter's OCD came on so severely and so quickly. But, I

had to specifically ask about the condition. She didn't even bring

it up to me!

We also met with my daughter's school today about her giftedness

designation. They were just so smug, and just so completely

uncaring. They agreed to keep her designation " for now " , but

mentioned hermarks will really suffer this term since she can't do

the work. Is this fair? Is this what happens when a student is

really sick. I just can't believe it.

We are just being enveloped by this disease, and I don't know how to

cope. nne
