It is possible that your regular pediatrician would be willing to consider this and try and test for it but it was only through our DAN that we were able to get the properly sensitive lab testing and treat with antibiotics, antifungal, and anti-parasitic medication based on lab tests. Guest guest
Has anyone taken their child to a DAN doctor? What are y'all thoughts on the subject? I had a DAN doctor call me today. She is going to send me some information on vitamin and herb supplements. I told her I wasn't interested in the gluten free diet. I am going to make an appointment with her just to see what she has to say and then decide from there is we will continue or not. Guest guest
We see a DAN doctor for our 8 yr.old son. We started with her 2 years ago when our son started to get aggressive at home and at school. His neurologist suggested medication, but I wanted to try other things first. It was very expensive, but her protocol seemed to work really well for him and he has no behavior problems at school and manageable ones at home. He has also made terrific academic progress. There are some things we have felt were not particularly helpful, but she works with us and we definitely have seen a positive impact with many of the things she has prescribed. However, I think you have to be open to trying different things. Recently, our son developed a fear of swallowing and lost 30 pounds in 2 months. She was the first to try to take some action, but unfortunately nothing worked. We ended up returning to the regular medical community for therapy and an anti-anxiety medication. (We had ruled out any physical causes.) He is started to make some progress. She also had done some testing and felt that our son was not a candidate for a gluten free diet. We also felt comfortable with her as she has a child on the spectrum, too. Hope this was of help to you. Guest guest
My son's pediatrician is a DAN doctor. There is a lot of emphasis on special supplements and less on medications. Special blood work is done, etc. Let me know if you have any other questions. Guest guest
I've been taking my son to DAN doctors and following the protocol for 10 years. It's greatly helped my son and I highly recommend it. This protocol is actually recovering many of the young ones, unfortunately many of the treatments were not available when my son was young, but there's always hope. I have a friend who was always hesitant about doing the protocol and diet, finally she started last year on her then 17 year old severely autistic non-verbal son. She is doing the bare minimum and seeing some improvements.

Guest guest
My name is Donna and I have a son who is 9. I took my son to a DAN doctor as soon as I knew he had Autism-at 2.5. DAN doctors follow a protocol developed from Defeat Autism Now Organization. Every year they discover new therapies. My son has issues with Gluten/Casien so when I took him off at 3 years old, he started saying words again. We have tried many of the different therapies--some helped and some didn't and some I decided not to pursue. I would recommend anyone who has an interest to visit a DAN doctor to see what they have to offer. My son wouldn't be half as healthy if I didn't take him to a DAN doctor and relied on a PED. My son received poor healthcare when he was a toddler-I basically had to figure out why he had severe constitpation and was losing words-along with demanding ear tubes after 7 months of reoccuring ear infections-UGH. As he was my first and is my only, I was under the impression that Doctors knew everything. My son takes supplements -not only for general health but also for calming and sleeping. We are lucky as our insurance covers services-and what they don't cover our regular PED will submit tests so they will be. Both my PED and DAN work together-as my PED has two boys on the spectrum. As I know he will always have Autism, I am willing to give a try to almost any therapy that can improve his life. Good Luck. Guest guest
Our 6 year old son has been seeing his DAN for almost a year. We have tried several supplements and diet changes. We were already GFCF when we went there. He asked if and what improvements we saw with the diet changes. So he is not all diet, but lead us to understand that our son has a soy allergy, brain inflammation, and gut problems when no other doctor did. He also accepts our insurance, which is GREAT! He is like a detective. He seems to know what questions to ask. We even e-mail him in between visits when we have issues. We are very glad we have him on our team. But he will be the first to tell you that he supplies us with information and medical knowledge, we decide what treatments our son gets - no him. Hope this helps.
