Guest guest
i did this recently and they turned out kind of strange. first, i didn't know about the " touching metal " issue that scobies have-so one of my halves has some black on it. but not the other one. does this mean it's ruined or can i still drink the brew? i just let it keep going while i was investigating the result. also, they don't float and the scoby above is developing sllllooowwwly (even the one in hibiscus, which i thought was supposed to be so fast!). i'm not sure it's working so well for me but it may be the fact that i had been disturbing them and the metal that it touched and so on.... so just be careful and patient, i guess, is what i learned from this. and don't do it with the last scoby you have maybe. this is all common sense of course but i was so excited from the process that i guess i got ahead of myself.... > > > > Hello experts! > > > > Well, I used a big bowl to make a batch of brew and ended up with a > > scoby that is about 14 inches in diameter! > > > > Has anyone ever cut up a scoby for sharing with other people or does > > this damage it or kill it? > > > > Thanks for tipping me off, > > > > > > > > -- > Live and Love Well, > > Sandy (Jennings, FL; zone 8b) > > >
Guest guest
gee susan.. i should probably shut my mouth. i'm a newbie too! but thats what i heard. as many pieces as you'd like. just that i never did it - cept for one that i'm not using to rebrew. i tried to make some kombucha extract from it. guess i did. tasted delicious the first day - but i had it again today and wasnt too pleased with the taste. but now... if ya really want me to tell you something kinda ucky. it was hard to squeeze the scoby to make the extract so i think i'll get a juicer to do it. but meanwhile - i cut a piece off and chewed it like gum. then spit it out when it started to taste bad. ha - i heard that theres good stuff in them scoby juices. Answer From: Ariel kombucha tea hi susan. you can cut it. use a stainless steel sizzor or a stainless steel knife. it can be cut in as many pieces as you would like. : -) suggesting that, if you think of it as a large clump of plants, it works. You wouldn't think twice about splitting a clump and re-potting it hither thither and yon. " Same difference " as some of our lot say. Think of the size of one bacterium. What damage are you going to do separating it from it's pals when it just makes some more pals? Nn. England.
