I'm afraid still more lives may be lost besides massive distruction. I made it through Hurricane Betsy and Camille. Besty wasn't nearly as strong but it came up the mouth of the Miss. River and parts of New Orleans had 12 feet or higher water. People climbed into their attics to get out of the wall of water but forgot to bring axes to escape and many drowned in their own attics. Camille turned towards Biloxi Ms at the last minute but we had a lot of damage and also from rains and flooding. When a person decides to leave they bring all the important papers and sentimental things with them because you may return to nothing left. I had to show ya photos. That is my 3 story building and roof next to the flood levee that is as tall as the building cause the normal level of the lake sits as high as me on the second story. If we take a close enough hit by a strong level 4 or 5 they are predicting a 20 to 25 foot storm surge of water from the Gulf being pushed into the lake and than over. I've seen Camille another 5 when it hit Ms coast push a fully weighed down large ocean liner anchored well offshore and deposited it broadside inland up and over the beach. Many homes and people where never found not even a trace of them. I had to arrange for early refills of my anti rejection meds cause if we get to close of a direct hit we don't know how long we need to be gone or when they will allow us back in. My son is the one that will be on duty throughout it all and the one I am very worried about. They gear completely up because it's a shame but people stay behind just for the purpose of looting.
