---Born in Indiana, moved to Bradenton, FL in 1993. My son is 18, severely

disabled w/Autism, no speech and Tourettes or some other tic disorder. My oldest

brother has Asperger's and I believe that I am also on the spectrum...would

explain a lot of my " problems " in life. I remember " attacking " one of my

brothers out of frustration of not feeling like I " fit in " anywhere. Social

situations are still very awkward for me...I do not like to be touched or to

touch others...I LOVE my kids, but rarely think to give hugs...it is just not in

me no matter how much I want it...very painful and lonely life...Like always

standing on the outside looking in...even worse for my son, though. I DO feel

his pain, but feel that I understand him more than anyone else.

Thankyou for sharing,

I have always been the odd man out in my family. So my mom

jokes, but I think I may be on it as I seem to “connect” with the

kids, I can’t sit still always have to be busy.

The hugging thing would be rough for me, I am one of the only

ones in my school who still hugs the students, I am careful in my position. But

will hug any child that asks or “needs” it.

You’re a very strong person tho. And I have found it a

pleasure to meet you.and I love how you and others have moved from states. I have

been in jersey from day one. I have lived in the top middle southern and now

the tip of it. lol

Hi Debra,

There have been studies done in the past that seemed to find " pockets " that had

a higher rate of Autism. I seem to remember that there was a school in NJ that

had a higher rate of students on the spectrum, and the teachers that had babies

had a higher rate on the spectrum also.

Sorry I can't remember much more about it. Maybe someone else does.

, mother to (23). We live in a small town called Cut-n-Shoot, TX,

45 miles northeast of Houston. Our town's name is teased a lot here in Texas.

We live in the country on a couple of acres and have lots of animals.

is somewhat verbal, 6'4 " 215# teddy bear -- can be a grizzly at times though.
