Guest guest
Hi All I have a question of how much tea (plain old black tea bags) and sugar to use for 1/2 gallon (2 quarts). This is a new size for me, and my old receipe is kind of hit and miss (mostly hit-but see below) Please tell me in quarts and cups as I am metrically challenged. lol Also lately some of my babies have been coming out very, very thin and with big bubbles. Am I not using enough sugar? Thanks very much Summer
Guest guest
Hi Summer Everyone seem to have mixture proportions that they swear by. Myself I like to keep thing simple. I've been brewing 2 tea bags/teaspoons of tea and 1/3 cup of sugar per quart of sweet tea. I also use 5 oz of starter tea per quart. I brew 3 quarts for my gallon jars, 8 quarts for my 2.5 gallon crock and 13 quarts for my 3.8 gallon crock. Here in Euroland many can't make head or tail of the imperial measures with the added complication that US measures differ from the British measures :-( However, I have worked out the cup measures to gram weights for those of you who are metrically inclined: 1 cup = about 220 grams 1/2 cup = about 120 grams 1/3 cup = about 75 grams 1/4 cup = about 55 grams 4 litres are pretty close to 1 US gallon and 1 litre to a quart My own recipe for KT brewing is: 1 US gallon ........... 4 litres water 1 3/4 cup ............. 380 grams sugar 8 teabags or equivalent teaspoons of tea (very flexible amounts;-) I use rather more than less as I like a robust flavour. Just to give you an idea how one copes who sits between two chairs ;-) Blessings, Margret:-) -- +------------------ Minstrel@... --------------------+ <)))<>< http://www.therpc.f9.co.uk <)))<>< http://www.AnswersInGenesis.com +----------------- http://www.Gotquestions.org ------------------+ ...whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, adnirable, excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things!
