Guest guest
Dear Dina, Thank you for posting your success story. It's really important to hear these occasionally, and " newbies " often haven't heard any, and almost certainly don't believe their nightmare will ever end. I'm thrilled that your daughter is doing so well, and that you are planning to vacation! Way to go! Our daughter has been pretty stable for a few years now. She was non-functional in second grade, and was pretty sick for a while each year until sixth grade. But last year and this year she is doing really well - no major OCD surges, good grades, happy, normal, etc. She is 12 1/2 though, so our lives aren't all smooth sailing, but it's actually wonderful to just be dealing with typical preteen behavior for a change. I honestly never believed that she would be this close to " normal " ever. I think one of the best things that happens when your child pulls herself out of the deep rut of severe OCD is that they learn that it can be done! With good cognitive behavioral therapy and a supportive family and doctors (and, in our case, medication), they can learn to easily identify and squash little " sprouts " of OCD as they pop up. It's a lot like pulling weeds - if you catch them early and pull them up, they don't grow into huge nasty plants with deep roots that take over your garden. My daughter often mentions that she " had a big OCD thing about X last week, but got over it. " She doesn't even involve us anymore. She talks to her therapist about any that are getting big and together they solve those too. I'd say we always have a low level of obsessions and compulsions, but they are so small that only my daughter knows about them and they don't interfere with her life anymore. Congratulations on your success story, and thanks for sharing. in NV

Guest guest
So happy for you! Congrats! Positive post I just thought I would update you all. I don't know if you remember me, but my daughter, Mikayla, has had OCD for 2 1/2 yrs. She just turned 10. She had a terrible waxing period right before Easter this year and stopped eating, anxiety out of control, losing weight, etc. We switched her from Celexa to Prozac and added Zyprexa for weight gain and a boost to her SSRI while it got on board. She had a hard time getting on the Prozac with a great deal of anxiety. Now, a couple of months later, I can't believe how stable she is! I know it won't be forever, but we'll take it! She is basically anxiety free, she has no obsessive thoughts or compulsions. We've reduced her Zyprexa and plan on stopping next week when school is out. She just had her all day, 5 routine dance recital and was happy and carefree and did excellent! She's enjoying school and her friends and seems like a regular kid. The stress relief for our whole family has been tremendous. We are even planning a small vacation. ooooo! I am learning to enjoy these " regular " things. Thanks for listening! Guest guest
, It was great to read your post. As a " newbie " , reading some of the situations is very scary and also heartbreaking. I'm very happy for your family and, mostly, your daughter. There is hope. I think we all need to hear about successes as well as challenges. Thank you for sharing the good news.
