Guest guest
Deb - My older daughter who had been diagnosed ADHD had been on all the stimulant meds - while they helped tremendously, loss of appetite was always and issue, etc. She's older now and of legal age and chooses not to take medication. My son, who is 14, takes Strattera, a nonstimulant ADHD med. He takes this along with Zoloft for OCD and we've had great results. There is no loss of appetite and Strattera has a sort of anti-depressant/anti-anxiety effect. As a matter of fact, he actually started on this prior to the Zoloft and within three weeks we had seen a decrease in his anxiety level with that alone. My son also has Tourette's so we really tried to avoid the stimulant meds so as not to exacerbate his tics. A lot of doctors use Strattera in combination with a small dose of stimulant to achieve the desired effect. Good luck.... In a message dated 7/16/2005 5:40:34 P.M. Our son has had issues with ADHD since he was 3 years old and we always felt if we treated the underlying issues (OCD, GAD, Sensory Processing Disorder)the attention problems would improve. They really haven't, and he is now 6 1/2. We are considering our options as far as meds go, but have always heard that meds for ADHD make anxiety worse. Is this true? Are any of them better than others? Worse? Also our son is super tiny for his age. We don't think he needs to get heavy, but losing a lot of weight wouldn't be terrific either! Thanks for any input, Deb
Guest guest
Hi, I am glad to hear of your kids and others who have had success with straterra. I know of some that were not helped by it. How much do they take of it? Was a low dose helpful, since you saw improvement in such a short time? Thanks! Ellen
