Guest guest
http://www.unos.org/resources/MeldPeldCalculator.asp?index=97 About MELD and PELD The Model for End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD) and Pediatric End-Stage Liver Disease (PELD) are numerical scales that are currently used for liver allocation. The MELD and PELD scores are based on a patient's risk of dying while waiting for a liver transplant, and are based on objective and verifiable medical data. The MELD score is used for adult liver patients and is based on bilirubin, INR, and creatinine. Liver transplant candidates under the age of 18 are assigned a PELD score. The PELD score is based on bilirubin, INR, albumin, growth failure, and age when listed for transplant, factors which better predict mortality in children. These scores do not determine the likelihood of getting a transplant, which will be based upon organ availability and the distribution of MELD/PELD scores for patients in a local area or region. We highly recommend patients review the MELD/PELD Calculator Q & A document (PDF), which has been developed to answer questions about MELD/PELD scores. Additionally, the MELD and PELD allocation system is explained more fully in the Q & A for Patients and Families about MELD/PELD document (PDF). Patients with questions about MELD/PELD scores or their specific medical conditions should contact their physicians or transplant program.Learn about the Calculator Go to the MELD Calculator (Adult) Go to the PELD Calculator (Pediatric)
