She is too big for a carseat w/ 5 pt harness. She's in a booster seat and that when our struggle began. I dunno what to do. I need something that will maybe cover it? HELP! Guest guest Posted July 12, 2009 Report Share Posted July 12, 2009 Hi, We use a seat belt cover that you can only open by pushing a key or something long thin and strong through the opening. This only worked until learned to pull the belt through and over his head but at least that took more time then just unlatching the belt. I couldn't find the exact ones we use (bought on line about 5 years ago) but they have some made by angel guard. Just search angel guard seat belt and you should find the site. Good Luck! I really need to call the bus company and have them fit him for a restraint they use on the bus. My friend/advocate Kathy said I can do this. It is really hard I know. Guest guest Posted July 13, 2009 Report Share Posted July 13, 2009 Stacie, In order for a restraint to be used on the bus, you must have an I.E.P. meeting to state that a restraint be used. We've gone that route (no pun intended) twice with our boys. Transportation wanted a all or nothing clause, but I insisted that the bus driver gauge (no pun) the situation on a daily basis. There are months were is very aggressive, and wants to attack the driver, a student, or run off the bus (when moving), and the restraint is urgently needed. There are months, where he is calm and collected. I leave it up to the discretion of the driver. It's worked out for the best. It is a plastic thing that fits over top of the lock and sorta screws down on it. They should come up if you google it. Our bus company uses them alot on their special needs bus. So, Kathy told me that if I call the bus company they can have fitted for one for me to use in my car and then I can buy it. I really need one. I am glad you got it all worked out. My boys are in Sunshine Kids Radian 80, which is a 5 point harness up to 80 pounds.
