Hi again, Cordula, I'm De. We talked in chat a little Thurs. I'm a single mother on tx (treatment) working full time. I have to admit I've been well & truly blessed with minimal side effects (29 down 19 to go!) I'm off on weekends, so I started doing shots after work on Friday, but still had a hard time on Monday so now I do them Thurs. after work. I start sinking about 5-6 on Friday. The biggest problem I have is fatigue. I mostly check email, lay around and watch tv after work and on weekends. My teen daughter cleans the kitchen and the rest of the housework pretty much goes undone. I've been getting Schwan's food deliveries some because it's easy to fix, although a bit pricey.

As far as the dizziness, mine means I'm not drinking enough fluids so I drink more water when I get dizzy. I think any liquids without caffeine or carbonation will do. Small meals or snacks throught out the day help. I've discovered I can't do raw onion or spicy things anymore, but not sure if that the tx or my IBS. My nausea is usually minor, but sometimes it helps if I suck on dried ginger root.

I still get some surprise reactions, but it's much more predictable now than in the beginning. The longer I do it, the fewer good days I'm having, but I've heard other people say it gets better the longer they do it. The important thing for you to remember is that if you HAVE to work, you have to let a lot of things go so you can rest, but I'm not the only person that's worked the whole time on tx, so it CAN be done.

First weekend was a complete knock-out for me. Man, I've never felt so shitty in my life before. Even with all the education and kind words I have received from boards and other heppers, I was not prepared. Last weekend was better (only nausea and tired), thought today is really tough on me again. The heat is making me dizzy and I'm having a hard time focusing on work. I work full-time ... and that's what I'm trying to continue.I was so happy feeling better this weekend, that it's even harder to feel so weak again and I'm worried. Will I have to face every time I have the shot the unexpected? Can someone share their experience with me? Thank you all for your support in the last couple of weeks. I know I have a long journey ahead of me ... and I'm glad I found this place to talk about it.All the best!Cordula

Gail, I love your dogs. Obviously as a German I have to... lol

I've been drinking a lot of water and also trying to rest more.

Believe me, it's a big change to just hang around a lot and not

constantly do the things I usually do. Been remodeling my home and

now it just have to come to a halt at this point.

But I'm keeping my mind filled with positive thoughts and thank god

I found a great group of people to talk with.

Thanks.

De, I don't know what to expect at this point about the working

issue. I have no choice... as you know I'm a single mother too and

what else could I fall back on? I had finally been able to buy a

house last year and I'm not willing not to be unable to pay for it

b/c the tx. I will have to make it!

I never heard about the Ginger roots.... have to try that.

Thanks for sharing... ;)

  • 3 weeks later...

If you feel like throwing up when you take pills, try eating smaller more frequent meals or crackers, ginger snaps or vanilla wafers. You can do this! Just decide!

With you all the way,

I've been reading a lot about B12... will give it a try. I am taking Vitamins already and everytime I take some pills I feel like throwing up. I know many of you folks are in a much more difficult situation, hate being a complainer. Cordula

I agree 100% on the anti-depressants, I thought it was almost standard now with tx. Call the doc tomorrow and ask for some. I'm doing well with 20mg of Lexapro (start with 10 mg), but the Lexapro is expensive and not on the insurance formulary, so I have to beg samples of that.
