If you don't have much carbonation, it will be fine, with or without the cellophane wrap. Also, even if you do have some carbonation, it will be fine this way in the refrigerator. :j
Guest guest
Thanks for answering. I know that some people use plastic bottles and I will resort to empty soda bottles if I absolutely have to but would prefer to use glass bottles whenever possible. Guest guest
HI Sharing this with the collective. The best container is an empty bottle of Golsch beer, the one with the flip-top.. I decided to give a try since it seems to be a constant fixture for the more experienced KT brewers of the list. Cost me 2.45 which, strangely enough is the same if you were to buy an empty bottle from many of the Internet Wine and Beer making sites, when you add S & P..!! I had 4 of them, my friends drank the beer and liked it a lot, which means I may got more bottles for free.. I found this very good deal though on the net... helped by another person on this list.. Is it OK to mention your name? http://www.homebrewit.com/aisle/3000 Avoid the use of Plastic as much as you can. Toxins do take some time to accumulate in our bodies. The effects of the KT , leaching the plastic may not be felt for many years or in the best of cases even be outweighed by the de-toxfying nature of KT but ,, however, better be on the safe side... Happy Easter to all!! Frantz Sandy <sandyemaillists@...> wrote: Thanks for answering. Guest guest
I completely agree Frantz and am working on my collection of grolsch beer bottles. I actually found the cheapest was to get them is to just buy the beer...which works out to about $2.00 per bottle for me and I give the beer to a friend who drinks it since we don't. It has just happened that my KT production has jumped ahead of my ability to purchase the bottles so I am having to come up with creative solutions until I have money enough to get more. Eventually, I will be set where I don't have to ever use plastic again. Each batch of KT fills about five beer bottles and I currently have ten. I went from one scoby to three actively brewing in a short period of time so just sort of got ahead of myself...lol Scobys multiply like rabbits...<smile> On 4/8/07, Frantz Mathias <frantzgm@...> wrote: > > HI > The best container is an empty bottle of Golsch beer, the one with the > flip-top.. Guest guest
I have both green ones and a couple of really old brown ones. The green ones have a hard plastic top while the older brown ones have a ceramic top. Guest guest
Hi I thought it was only me... . My last batches (2 Gallons) have produced 2 substantial SCOBYs. The strange thing is that I started one of the batches on a dare with a rather flimsy SCOBY, it produced nonetheless a rather thick baby SCOBY... I will have to use this fine looking SCOBY and that means more bottles... I am not sure I can drink that much KT.. What it gives me, though is the opportunity to have a constant supply of KT. I have purchased a food-grade SIPHON and will also use a larger container my brews maybe a 3~5 gallons. More Goslch containers on the way ... I have tried the Ginger thing. I will let you all know how it went... Advice to my fellow newbies. It seems that the SCOBY takes a 2 to 3 be=rew cycle to become fully active. My original Mother would produce a good tea from the start but rather thin babies... Now under similar conditions, it and its offspring, even the flimsy ones produces thick healthy babies and good tea... Stick to the basic recipes, 5~8 teabags, 1 1/3 refined sugar for one gallon of Distilled water. Wash everything in clean water with vinegar.. Boil enough water to seep your tea and dissolve the sugar, add the rest of the water ( I boil about a Quart myself and then simply add more water for a gallon) let it cool and drop in the SCOBY.. Voila KT.. I am to this day surprised by how easy it is... My original scoby came from a local friend and I have a feeling it was a scoby that she had been using for sometime to brew...she only has one jar going and just keeps her extra scobys in the jar for the next brew. While this isn't typically an issue...I don't know for sure how long she had been using that particular scoby. I have a feeling it is just tired and intend to retire it as soon as I get a decent replacement scoby from it. I am looking forward to having extras to share. Right now I have one scoby from Georgia, one from Idaho, one from North Carolina and soon to be one from Washington State. I'm also in the process of getting Kefir grains which I will be able to share once they produce as well. So far I am seeing a few good things coming from drinking the KT mostly in the form of a major reduction in my sugar cravings. With the fibromyalgia is difficult to decide whether I am having any detox symptoms caused by the KT since I go from good to not so good depending upon the day. But eventually I hope that the KT in addition to other things I am doing will help reduce my symptoms enough that I can return to work. -- Live and Love Well, Sandy http://www.dragondiscounts.com http://www.cafepress.com/alternativelove http://www.cafepress.com/mystreas http://www.cafepress.com/twinkymind

Arielle The Groelsch ones here in the UK are green and quite small. They don't have to be Groelsch however - that's only a particular beer firm. I collected quite an arsenal of 0.75 litre brown glass bottles with the typical swing top lid ... quite hard to open and close. These were from a Belgian wheat beer, I think. So, you need to look for the type of top rather than the name. Yes, those bottles are immensely sturdy and help make a wonderfully fine fizz.
