Guest guest
Hey All: Cleaning up, but looking over my shoulder at more of Mother Nature heading toward this crazy place. Living in FL, hurricanes are just part of paradise. Hope folks on the East coast took notice that these storms can get "real" fast. Hospital around here are still pretty full from psychological side effects (delusions, depression anxiety) particularly in the elderly. Peace to you all. Guest guest
Sounds like there is some PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) going around the area. Guest guest
Dick Each mornig we look at each other reach in or pockets to reassure we are going to be the staff that day. then laugh and begin dianosing each other. But really you are right. It looks different than combat due to the source, but is terribilly debilitating because this was suppose to be a "safe zone." People, civilians with homes blown apart, a chair that once supported wet, moldy and broken. It's just a chair objectively.... but warmth, support, familiarand at some point choosen to be a part of their life. The tapes play... what if I had been sitting in it, or been hit by it as if was launched like a missle... Lots of negative references.... Maybe we can install a few new ones that will bring the security back? Take it easy. Mike
Guest guest
I know the devastation was minor in comparison, but I was so blessed to be able to attend group disaster counseling after I got hit by a tornado. The same people that led the group, also did the same for Columbine, Okla City & things like somebody getting shot while you're working the counter at Micky D's. They helped us get a grip on what was "normal" in our situation and how to move on. It's been 6 years & I still freak out in a carwash or a storm sometimes. I'm glad people have you to help them, Mike. De Faith is the ability to not panic. -----Original Message-----From: mwm1951@... Guest guest
Hi Mike, I just wonder how long the after effects of this mental trauma will last with those that have survived Charley and what they think about the approaching Frances? It is very similar to a serviceman that returns to civilian life and gets on with his life and then 20 or 30 years later is dx with HCV and finds that the VA questions taking on his care because he has medical insurance and a good job. Result.....PTSD. Keep up your good work there with the Floridians.......take care of them and you.
