This will be long, sorry. My son Ricky is 11. His summer program is thru his

mental health agency. They work on social skills, controlling emotions,

following directions using fun activities. Meds he is on include risperdal 2.5mg

2 times a day. We just reduced from .5mg in am to 1.5mg in pm. And lamictal 100

mg in am. Meds we have tried with no success include: clonidine, abilify,

seroquel, depakote, geodon, welbutrin, and celexa. The doctor said there isn't

much left to try. Of course i have used behavioral interventions. We are doing

parent child interaction therapy, reward system using stickers, with rewards for

keeping all stickers. Time out, OT, sensory integration, floortime, horseback

riding, social skills groups, individual therapy. We have a behavior specialist

from MRDD who writes social stories and a behavior support plan, and a community

support provider from his mental health agency who comes to my home. I have not

tried GFCF yet or biomeds yet because of the cost.

- I am frustrated!

good morning all. My son, Ricky is suppossed to be up and ready to go to his

summer program right now. He absolutely refusing to get up and get ready. It is

only 8:10 am and he is already defiant and nasty. I usually have to bribe him in

order to get up. That didn't even work this morning. What do you all do when

your child refuses to do something? Time out and taking things away don't work.

I have made the decision to place him in residential treatment. Fortunately the

treatment home is only around the corner from where i live. Thanks if you read

this far. I can get kinda wordy sometimes.

We have had to use the police before. They come and talk to him and go on there

way. Nothing really motivates him anymore.

Hi ,

I went through this with during the school year. He would make sure we

overslept (he would turn the alarms off). We almost ended up in court because of

it. I spoke to the principle of the school and we decided that if he missed his

bus again I would call her and she would come and get him. He has a big respect

for authority and did not want this to happen so he was up and ready for the bus

after that.

Is there anyone at your son's program that might be able to do this? Does he

respect authoeity figures? I have even gone so far as to use threats to get him

to do what I want him to do, (police if he threatens violence to others, the

hospital if he threatens violence to himself, and so on).

I hope that some of this will help you.
