Guest guest
Hi, I have a son, 16, with OCD. His OCD was mostly compulsions when it began troubling him. What OCD behaviors is your daughter dealing with? I know when we were in the midst of all the severity of his OCD back when he was around age 12, I just could hardly cope myself some days. So I can imagine the emotional and physical " wear and tear " you've been going through!! Did she have any bad side effects with the medications or did they just not help with her OCD? I know I've heard that sometimes depression has to be dealt with first before treating the OCD. What have her doctors thought? Is she on any medications now? Many here have had to search and search until they have found a psychiatrist and/or therapist who really was experienced with OCD and were able to start making some progress. So don't give up hope there, perhaps you live near someone here who might can offer some suggestions on who and where to go. What state are you in? At the OCD Foundation website at http://ocfoundation.org I believe there is a Teen section and chat group. Has she tried there yet? My son luckily got past the severity of his OCD (knock on wood!) and is doing well now. OCD is still there but not disabling. ((hugs)) as I salute you for dealing with OCD and depression this many years if she hasn't been able to make progress, plus probably dealing with the usual teenage things too! single mom, 3 sons , 16, with OCD, dysgraphia and Aspergers(autism) > > someone, anyone, help me....my daughter has had ocd and depression > for the last 6 years. no doctors have been able to help her > successfully. it drives her crazy. no medication seems to help. she > has no one to talk to who understands...she just has me and the wear > and tear on us both mentally is almost unbearable....she is looking > for someone to share her load with...please, anyone, help us, tell us > what to do to survive and get her fixed
Guest guest
I'm so sorry you're going through this! There's so very much to say! So, I'll ask a first simple question . . . Have you tried all six ssri medications as well as anafranyl and inositol? While there are a small percentage of people for whom none of the six possible treatments work - they all have to be tried before giving up. Have you tried all of them? > > someone, anyone, help me....my daughter has had ocd and depression > for the last 6 years. no doctors have been able to help her > successfully. it drives her crazy. no medication seems to help. she > has no one to talk to who understands...she just has me and the wear > and tear on us both mentally is almost unbearable....she is looking > for someone to share her load with...please, anyone, help us, tell us > what to do to survive and get her fixed

Guest guest
ocd she is struggling with...let us see,, dressing, touching things before going to bed, walking back and forth through doorways, twirling as she goes through also, taking out her contacts and putting them in one side as opposed to separate compartments over and over again, there is more but this gives you an idea. yes, we had a psych tell us that we had to chose what to work on first, depression or the ocd.... such a decision to decide which evil to start with, huh? we worked first on ocd and then tried working on the depression after a couple of years, neither one is better... jamie > > > > someone, anyone, help me....my daughter has had ocd and depression > > for the last 6 years. no doctors have been able to help her > > successfully. it drives her crazy. no medication seems to help. she > > has no one to talk to who understands...she just has me and the wear > > and tear on us both mentally is almost unbearable....she is looking > > for someone to share her load with...please, anyone, help us, tell us > > what to do to survive and get her fixed

Guest guest
(oops I may have double posted) I'm wondering if your daughter might like to correspond with my 16 yr old daughter. She has had OCD and spectrums about 6 yrs too. She has had some severe depression but is better, but still has down spells and anxiety flare-ups. No meds, she never found them helpful though tried several. She is thinking about trying meds again. I'll see if she might be interested in e-mailing with your daughter and contact you off-list if she is. nancy grace In , " pickenspickles " <pickenspickles@y...> wrote: > > someone, anyone, help me....my daughter has had ocd and depression > for the last 6 years. no doctors have been able to help her > successfully. it drives her crazy. no medication seems to help. she > has no one to talk to who understands...she just has me and the wear > and tear on us both mentally is almost unbearable....she is looking > for someone to share her load with...please, anyone, help us, tell us > what to do to survive and get her fixed

Guest guest
yes..she would like that. she only has two so called friends they do not even begin to understand her and only call her to do things with as a last resort, I think. not truly real friends. thanks jamie > > > > someone, anyone, help me....my daughter has had ocd and depression > > for the last 6 years. no doctors have been able to help her > > successfully. it drives her crazy. no medication seems to help. she > > has no one to talk to who understands...she just has me and the wear > > and tear on us both mentally is almost unbearable....she is looking > > for someone to share her load with...please, anyone, help us, tell us > > what to do to survive and get her fixed > > > > > > Our list archives, bookmarks, files, and chat feature may be accessed at: > / . > Our list advisors are Gail B. , Ed.D., Tamar Chansky, Ph.D.( > http://www.worrywisekids.org ), Dan Geller, M.D.,Aureen Pinto Wagner, Ph.D., > ( http://www.lighthouse-press.com ). Guest guest
Hi, I understand the desperation you are feeling. I have felt that way with my son. He is five and been diagnosed with OCD. I can not help with connecting you or your daughter with anyone that I know personally, but have you thought of a local OCD support group for the people with OCD and family and friends. I just attended one in Seattle (we live about three hours away but worth the trip) and I feel so much better. I feel like I can begin to clear my mind and get a grip on this. We still have really bad days when I want to pull out my hair and cry. I feel like my son's childhood is being ripped away from him. We also have days that I feel like we are making progress. The support group helped me get perspective and not feel so alone. I know they have them across the country. It would give you a chance to talk with others going through the same thing. It would also give your daughter a chance to meet others who share her experience. Good Luck and hang in there. I know the bad days seem to drag on.
