Guest guest
Dearest Dorinda, I like Corningware, or, better yet, Visionsware. The stores who sold me mine are all out of business. Steve says K-Mart and Zayre's would have them. Be sure to have plenty of rubber bands, big enough to go around your brewing pot. You know what equipment you need for harvesting. For brewing, you will need black, green and/or white tea (there are many other good ones you will learn about later), pure water, sugar (you can try other sweeteners later) a measuring pitcher, something to boil the tea and sugar mixture in that is not metal if you are also going to brew in it. I like to boil my three litres of water with 1 and 1/2 cups of white sugar and then add five black tea bags and 2 white or green tea bags. and steep for 20 minutes. This has worked for Darla, too, but she has better temperature control. How warm do you keep your house? I wish I could brew at 78 to 80 degrees F. Then I can harvest in 6 and 1/2 days. If you use loose tea, you would need a stainless tea holder (the name eludes me). Corningware is considered glass, but it will get dark tea stains in ten years of use. Don't boil in Pyrex unless you have a flame spreader. Steve and I have been talking until 4:08 a. m, so this letter may be a little disconnected. I will try to get two scobies off to you when you return from Montreal. LOve. MOm.
