He is getting weaker every hour due to vomiting and diarrhea. Prescriptions (metronidazole) are not helping. What could be done at least to avoid dehydration. He vomits all we put in, including oral rehydratation salts. Any suggestion, please. Victor
Guest guest
Victor, Get your son to an urgent care clinic or an emergency room to get a saline iv. That's nothing to mess around with. My wife caught a bad virus with nasea and vomiting and within the day was so severely dehydrated, against her wishes I took her to the er. She was better in hours where as before hand she couldn't keep anything down. Not even water. Good luck, Victor Valdez <vivaldez@...> wrote: Hi all My 3 years old little son, has been diagnosed with giardias and amoebas. He is getting weaker every hour due to vomiting and diarrhea. Our daughter has not been sleeping well at night since about april. despite being on magnesium amd vitamin b6 as she is extremely hyperactive she got worse and was put on anti histamines (phenegarn). this helped for 2 - 3 months then stopped working. Was referred to CAMHS (Child and mental health services) and put on melatonin tablets that only worked for 2 nights and on the 3rd no sleep at all....I have also tried herbal alternatives, valerian root extract and that does not even touch her...I am losing my mind...can anyone help..thanx
Guest guest
What is the dose of melatonin? If it worked initially, dont give up on it.  Also, the epsom salts are individual to the child, I started really slowly then worked up to a huge amount as that seems to help my son. In the beginning I used about 1/2 a mug full then worked my way up.  If your child isn't sleeping at all you might also want to look into adrenal support. Without sleep your body starts pumping out adrenaline and you get into a hyperaroused state and it is even more difficult to sleep. I would also recommend that you keep any environmental stress as low as possible when she is sleeping so little, this will help her body to relax and come down from the hyperaroused state and will give her more of a chance of being able to sleep. When my son used to get into that state we did lots of exercise in the mornings, simple days with no stress and lots of down time for him, make sure he was eating plenty of food (as being hungry would also keep him awake), and stick to a bedtime routine.  Melatonin worked wonders for us but I had to stick it out for a long time before it really really changed him. Also give her oral magnesium if you can. Kirkman's melatonin has magnesium in it and I used to buy magnesium citrate powder from Kirkmans to give orally during the day.  You might also consider any gut pain - reflux was a big factor for our son's sleep issues. If I have reflux it is enough pain to keep me awake or wake me up, there is no way I can sleep when I have it.  Best wishes, it's really hard not having any sleep, I did it for years...  Darla 2009/10/4 whoddinni <whoddinni@...>  oh i have started using epsom salts bath be4 bed but does anyone know how much to use. have just been reading the coffee to help with hyperactivity article and will be giving that tomorrow....if i gave it at night it would keep her awake, is that right? Re: Urgent Help Hi - The only thing that improved our Son's sleeping habits apart from lots of outdoors actvity was the blue sleep lamp from Three Wells in The Netherlands it produces melatonin during the night while your child sleeps, only took a week with Jack to make a real difference, worth a try but remember to purchase a lamp from ikea as the fitting is dutch, good luck Marina x>> Hie All> > We are going thruogh a very bad patch at the moment. Guest guest
Reply. Epsoms Salts - go up to 2 cups normally (according to Jean) although she has Tom on 3 cups per bath. Work up very slowly. Lack of sleep. Tom does not sound like your son, he is not that hyperactive but, for what it's worth, chromium was a real life changer for us and sorted his sleep out (probably in combination with a load of stuff he was on anyway, Oxypowder and adrenal cortex) Sara whoddinni wrote: > > > > > oh i have started using epsom salts bath be4 bed but does anyone know > how much to use. have just been reading the coffee to help with > hyperactivity article and will be giving that tomorrow....if i gave it > at night it would keep her awake, is that right? > >

Guest guest
Hi Sorry to hear this :-( Phenergan makes some kids hyperactive - so that might have been the problem there. How much melatonin are you giving? We give up to 9mg, with chamomile tea. And Tom weighs just over 4 stone now (a breakthrough, he's been 3 stone 6 forever!). If sleeplessness co incides with the full moon that's very common too. Other things we've tried - warm bath with not too much epsom salt in it, sometimes with lavendar. Chamomile tea from about two hours before bed time. Playing Kate Rusby or Kate Bush music (yes, really). Dim lights and everyone getting on with other stuff. We find if Tom thinks his sleeplessness is winding us up (it is!) it really excites him. If we say " ok stay awake as long as you like " (and mean it, which is the tricky bit), he gets bored and takes himself off to bed. Thinks like turkey to eat are filling and relaxing, lettuce also contains things to make you sleep. Hope this passes, not much worse than sleep free living Steph x > > Hie All > > We are going thruogh a very bad patch at the moment. Guest guest
I haven't read through the thread yet but in case no-one has said this, B6 can cause wakefulness and it may be better only to give it in the morning, also to look at perhaps stopping it and then retrying it at a lower dose might help? Guest guest
I know you can get Coffea (coffee) as a homeopathic remedy and that it has been used to help with sleep. Haven't tried it myself, though. Guest guest
I have been useing L-tryptophan 500mg for Georgia which has worked so far after weeks of not sleeping much. I have used melatonin before without much success but use it with L-tryptophan now just before bed. Our DAN recommended it and although it has only been about 10 days it might be helpful. He also said that we could gradually add more tryptophan if it wasn't working up to 2000mg. best wishes and hoope you get more sleep!
