Guest guest
Hi Tonya, are you taking all of those exercise classes for credit? What classes are you taking this semester? I'm thinking of going back to school for my MA but I haven't decided in what yet. I'm waiting for my former sign language instructor to get back from vacation so that I can ask her opinion of what would be a good fit with my background. I'm also registering for an online study group for the written portion of my interpreter certification test. Hopefully by the time that study group is over I will have enough money saved up to take it. I hope that I can use it for my CEUs too because it does involve some reading/studying so I think it should count towards my yearly requirement. Good luck this semester! JenFrom: Tonya - <tonya@...>Subject: Another crazy week! , Cathe_Friedrich_Fans Date: Saturday, August 15, 2009, 1:21 PM I’m taking a break from reading the over 800 emails I had to catch up on from this week to let you all know how I’m doing. Actually, I’m really looking forward to starting school on Monday so I can have a normal week! LOL It’s been nuts around here. Monday and Tuesday was instructor training at the gym. Monday was a full day and mostly PE games interspersed with the employee manual review and a pasta lunch. Good thing it was pasta, because I was still on soft foods only. Tuesday was intense as it was a group x 101 review followed by all 8 of us demonstrating our classes. I ended up with 2 ½ hours of straight exercise, doing everything for about 15-20 minutes because the instructors who weren’t teaching at the time made up the mock class. Although, those young kids kicked my butt so I can’t really say it was a mock class. LOL I’m the only one over 23 and the only one with experience teaching, so you can pretty much figure out how the cueing and flow of the workouts went, but I was still worked hard because they all worked at their fitness level (intense) and haven’t learned how to give modifications yet. Sorry, I can’t remember the order we did it all in, but I know we started with kickboxing and ended with my yoga class. In between, we did a ball workout, a bosu workout, a strength workout, a zumba workout, a circuit workout, and a butts and guts workout. It was actually pretty awesome to know that I could keep up with all those kids half my age, but very tiring when they couldn’t cue properly or give modification for my issues. Eventually, I just started doing my own modifications if they gave something really off the wall (alternating jump lunges on the bosu for example), but except for a few knee and hip injury specific things, I did alright. Surprisingly, I wasn’t sore from it at all. Wednesday I was suppose to have the day off to just lay in bed and veg, but DH decided that I needed to have some stress in my life instead. He had an episode with his blood pressure at work. Now we’ve known for a while now that he has blood pressure issues, but its been pretty much under control with diet and exercise. Since I’ve been in school this last semester though, he’s gotten out of the habit of eating right and exercising. Said something about being sick of it and I wasn’t here to push him on it. Anyway, he works for the sheriff’s department in the next county, 30 miles away, and when his BP spiked, they had a deputy bring him home. Wouldn’t even let him drive himself because it was so high. As soon as he got here, I force fed him a banana (potassium helps lower blood pressure) and took him to the doctor. He’s on a new BP medicine and it is now under control, but I’m still checking it 3-5 times a day to be able to show the doctor next month when he goes back to see how it is reacting in relation to the meds and other factors. Thursday I had to get up early to take him to work since his car was still there. This would be fine, but he has to be at work at 6am and because of the distance, we had to leave at 5am! So, up at 4am!!!! UGH! Took him to work, came home and got the kids off to school, then went to get a friend to go to Valdosta to get my school books and do some shopping. As we’re walking in the mall, she remembers she has a hair appointment in Fitzgerald—we were 2 hours away in Valdosta. So, quick shopping trip and rush back to Fitzgerald, lol, but at least I got my books for Monday when school starts. Got home and relaxed for a little while then ran to pick the kids up to take Bobby to the dentist (had to get a partial to replace the teeth that were knocked out when he was hit by that truck a couple years ago), Koti to cheerleading, then Bobby to his tech school program. Then pick Koti up from cheerleading and take her best friend and boyfriend home as they were both having issues with family members in the hospital. Long story short, we may end up with a couple extra kids at our house for a while because their parents are either sick or taking care of terminally ill relatives. Finally got to go to bed after picking Bobby up from his Tech school at 10 pm. He’s finally got his drivers license and I’ll be so glad when I get him a vehicle so I have one less person to taxi to and fro. Friday, I slept! LOL As in I didn’t get out of bed except to take the kids to school (only because Koti had a project that had to be transported or they would have walked. LOL) until 2:30pm. After I finally got up, I picked up the kids, ran a few errands, and then we went to the football game. It was just a scrimmage, but we had a blast. Koti is on the competition cheer team and not allowed to be on the football cheer team because she is only a freshman (not sure about that rule, but anyway), so she was doing all the cheers in the stands along with the girls on the field. My DH had warned the kids not to expect our team to do too well because the team we were facing is a much bigger school and usually has a better football team. Well, Koti told him that she had told the football team (she’s friends with most of them because the boyfriend is one of them and she is a cheerleader) that if they didn’t win, not to bother coming back to school, so they were going to win for her. They won! 35 to nothing! DH was shocked and DD was proud of her powers of persuasion. LOL As I’m sure you noticed there were several activities of daily living that required movement, but only one day of actual exercise. That really sucks in my opinion, so I’m super excited to get started with classes on Monday. I’ll be taking martial arts 3 days a week, weight training 2 days a week, and teaching yoga 2 days a week, so my exercise habits will be much improved. It’s just been so crazy that I haven’t had the time to exercise the way I want, so I’m putting it in my schedule the easiest way possible, with school. LOL I’ll also have several hours a day while I’m in Valdosta that I will have to kill between classes, so I’ll hopefully spend some of them in the gym. Some of them will be in a computer lab too! Okay, off to go finish reading all your messages. Tonya

Guest guest
The group x stuff at school is where I’m working in the schools Rec center and had to do training with them. As for my classes for credit, I’m taking Intro to Athletic Training, Advanced 1st Aid and CPR, Martial Arts, Serving Students with Diverse Needs, and Applied Nutritional Science.
