I am seeing Dr. Bakris at UC Medical Center in Chicago

Potassium is 3.9. I'm on a high potassium vegan diet with supplements. This is

the highest it has ever been.

Aldo/Renin ratio is 22.5 Blood test was taken with a tourniquet, I've read here

that that is a no no.

He said he is willing to bet I don't have PA, but we're going to do a 24 hour

urine next. I'm confused about his orders, though, and I haven't had a response

to my question, but it is after 4 on a Friday.

Does anyone know what this means:

" take in 60 mEq per day in three divided doses "

I asked for clarification, and this is what he said:

" The potassium supplements you are taking now KLor of KCL are 20 emEq/ each pill

you need to take 3 a day "

I asked again for a clarification, but haven't heard back. I'm taking potassium

chloride, 5-6 99 milligram tablets per day depending on whether I feel irregular

heartbeat. If I only take 3 per day, that's 1/2 of what I'm taking now, but I

don't know what 20 emEQ means. I also don't know what KLor of KCL refers to. I

realize KCL is potassium chloride, but I really don't understand the rest.

He said based on aldo/renin ration, he is willing to bet I DON'T have PA, but he

said the urine test will be more definitive.

I know well. He is excellent. Tell him I said hello.20 mEq x 40 = about 800 mg so what you are taking is not enough. Do you have prescription KCL? You K supplement contains almost no K. Or you can do low Na V-8 spicy 8 oz gives you about 1000 mg or 25 mEq. CE GrimMD On Jun 29, 2012, at 3:35 PM, pnb60 wrote: I am seeing Dr. Bakris at UC Medical Center in Chicago Potassium is 3.9. Your doc explained simply: potassium supplements you are taking now KCL are 20 mEq each pill ….. you need to take 3 a day to be 60 mEq/day…best is to take:· 1 tab with breakfast = 20 mEq· 1 tab with lunch =20 mEq· 1 tab with dinner =20 mEq Forget about 99mg is each tablet…with K.Cl always go with mEq.
