Guest guest
, It's my understanding that they are primarily concerned with congestion. Because the kids are under anesthesia and intubated, their airways need to be clear. We had a questionable time last cast. Makenna had what was most probably an ear infection, but didn't look like it yet. My ped agreed to give her an antibiotic to knock it out given the upcoming cast date. Unfortunately this is when we discovered Makenna was allergic to azythromiacin!!! She broke out with hives all over her stomach and back. at Chicago was great when I called sobbing and worried we would miss our cast date. She said bring her and weld decide when we got there. The nurse (Gwen, you'll love her) listens to her chest, a resident comes in and takes a look, and then the anesthesiologist takes a listen too. She will be checked out good. also emphasized to me, that if we couldn't do it that day...they would work her in as soon as possible, but that I shouldn't be worried about that part- they would take care of it and get her treated safely and quickly. She's great! If you have concerns call her. If you don't have her number let me know and I will give it to you. you can also call shriner's direct and ask to speak with linda cree. they will connect you or page her. Guest guest
Bex has been sick before a casting date, but he cleared up before each trip- we've gotten lucky. I know hospitals have different policies, but I would not cancel this far out or even call the hosp.- my understanding is that if her lungs are clear on the day of, it is fine. I would cancel if he had fever, etc., the day or 2 before, but our child seems to recover from sickness quickly. Good luck! I always worry about that so much the week before a cast.
