Guest guest
When we had Abigail casted at Shriner's they X-Rayed her brother ial as well, and he has a 11.5 C-Curve. He had X-rays taken yesterday, 2.5 months after his set at Shriner's and showed a small progression to 13 degrees, I don't see any signs of rotation. We are going to ask Dr. C to for his opinion when Abigail gets her cast changed on August 6th..but as a mother, what would you guys do? He has staples in his chest b/c of his heart defects and he will be 2 in September so time is important.
Guest guest
Whatever you decide to do, don't worry about the chest staples. Audrey also had heart surgery and she's in a cast with no problems to the staples. mom to Audrey, 3rd cast tomorrow, SLC > > When we had Abigail casted at Shriner's they X-Rayed her brother ial as well, and he has a 11.5 C-Curve. Guest guest
I think in the orthopaedic world 13 degrees is not something that most docs would treat. But given the history, I think you are doing absolutely the right thing by bringing it up to your casting doc at your next appointment and getting a professional opinion. Please let me know how that works out.... Guest guest
Thanks you two..Audrey, depending what happens I might have a ton of questions for you down the road, but for now I think after talking to a CAST mom we are going to ask if we can brace him. This is the exact age that Abigail's curve really started to show up, at least I have a heads up now. I'll keep you posted as to what Dr. C suggests : ) -Ami > > > From: luckyvtmama <amibeautinet@...> > Subject: ial's new x-rays > infantile scoliosis treatment > Date: Wednesday, July 14, 2010, 5:56 PM > > > Â > > > > When we had Abigail casted at Shriner's they X-Rayed her brother ial as well, and he has a 11.5 C-Curve. Guest guest
I would go with your gut on this one (and consult w/ a ET trained doc or 2, of course). If lil ial had some heart surgery, I would keep a real close eye as these cases tend to progress and with a cardiac surgery behind him, he needs to take no steps backwards. I would take pics of his back once a wk as they may help you to see/document progression. Sometimes its hard to see when you look it so much. Please keep us posted. Guest guest
Thanks My gut is very nervous. Shriner's said they wouldn't consider it progression as there is a 3-5 degree margin of error in measurement. So, I will be taking pictures once a week (thank you!) so I can keep tabs as opposed to buying my own personal radiation machine..*L* Good news, we got Abigail's measurements and she didn't progress at all while in her 1st cast, stable at 24 so far : ) -Ami > > > > > > From: luckyvtmama <amibeautinet@...> > > Subject: ial's new x-rays > > infantile scoliosis treatment > > Date: Wednesday, July 14, 2010, 5:56 PM > > > > > > Â > > > > > > > > When we had Abigail casted at Shriner's they X-Rayed her brother ial > > as well, and he has a 11.5 C-Curve.
