Guest guest
thanks . Is it a burning pain or a sharp pain? Days and days of it. Our new paed had prescribed WellDorm to help Tom sleep (having also accurately diagnosed him with gastritis). Yes, you've guessed it, when you google WellDorm it says clearly " not to be given in cases of inflamed gut or gastritis " . So, he's been taking something for four weeks that's very probably made him feel like S***. And they wonder why so many parents dont bother with the NHS at all. > > > > > > Beyond belief > > > > > >
Guest guest
That fits the piece of research which I posted which says that the effect of Namenda was minimal. Dr Fell should have a deputy, ditto the paed. What do you think is the matter? Do you think that it is pain upsetting him? If you think it is reflux could you ask your GP/poss even pharmacist for Gaviscon? What did they test in casualty? Sara's hospital found a twisted gut which was said to produce excrutiating pain. Did they do any sort of X-ray? What exactly is he doing? Banging his head? Hitting himself? Guest guest
Hi Steph, Trigeminal neuralgia comes and goes , can be triggered by touching a certain area or chewing etc I wonder if his reflux is contributing to inflammation that might be triggering some nerve. Katy seems to get a lot of phlegm and congestion if she has reflux. My neuralgia started up when I had viral encephalitis , I had various neuro investigations and they couldn't find anything. It ended up with the dentist removing a back tooth and they found a huge collection of white stuff under it. Perhaps all his inflammation from his gut is causing pressure on some nerve. Sorry if this is not helpful , just trying to think of conditions that could cause such pain. Guest guest
Hi, That was Nicola's son Luke. (also here in Swansea). The real pain for him, however, came from appendicitis, as far as I remember. He had had so much gut pain previously it was hard to figure out (and he has a very high pain threshold). Is appendicitis a possibility Steph? Steph, Did you ever try betaine and pepsin? This is such a high level of pain though, I think there has to be something seriously wrong. Have you seen this level of pain before Steph? Sara x Sally Eva wrote: > > > That fits the piece of research which I posted which says that the > effect of Namenda was minimal. Guest guest
Stepahnie, Have you got some chamomile tea around. If it is inflammaotry and not structural chamomile will reduce nerve exciation. I think it works a s a glutamate bocker (which is IDENTICAL to what the Namenda does) stephaniesirr schrieb: > > > thanks . Is it a burning pain or a sharp pain? Guest guest
Dear Steph, I am so sorry all this is going on. I am clutching at straws here, but could he be checked out for (not obvious) seizure activity? A local boy with severe autism was very prone to meltdowns until he started on a low dose of an anti-epileptic drug and he is now much happier. And I personally would definitely get him checked out on every way for physical pain, including by a cranial osteopath. And I would try him on non-prescription painkillers to see if these helped. I can't remember how old Tom is. Is he hitting puberty? Margaret > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > We've had terrible SIB here - poor Tom, just miserable. Days and days > > > > > of it. Guest guest
Hi Sara/Sally Hard to tell on the pain front but the reaction is the most severe. He was checked for appendicitis at casualty. So don't think it's that. We started him on TMG (which is betaine) and it made him rub his throat. So we've stopped for now but waiting to send off One test and then probably try again. Depending on what else is happening. He's banging his knee onto his head or his head onto teh floor. Forehead, side of head, chin on knee, then biting leg (and mine if I happen to be in the way). We'll try and get him a cranial appointment for tomorrow - at least that's soothing. wish I could train up to do it myself. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > We've had terrible SIB here - poor Tom, just miserable. Guest guest
Hi Margaret, thanks! He's nearly 11 and no sign whatever of puberty. He's tiny, I think he'll be a late developer. He's having gaviscon (asking for it), paracetomol (Yes, I know but ibuprofen exacerbates reflux - rock, meet hard place) We've been trying to get him checked for seizure activity for months now! NHS refused SPECT, cancelled other one whose name escapes me once and tehn failed to sedate him for the next one. Now I think they've given up. He has no absences but I know there are a zillion other types of seizure. I know Taurine raises the seizure threshold - might be something we try. Really appreciate everyone's thoughts and kindness. xxx > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > We've had terrible SIB here - poor Tom, just miserable. Days and days > > > > > > of it. Guest guest
Steph, I have less scientific knowledge than anyone else on this list, so I could be wrong but TMG isn't the same as betaine and pepsin. We use betaine and pepsin specifically to treat the reflux. (we give TMG as well and I'm sure someone else will correct me if I'm wrong) So far I have cured (seriously) reflux in Tom, in my husband, in my mother and in two of Tom's therapists just by getting them to take betaine and pepsin before a meal. I'm so glad you haven't tried it cos it gives me hope that it might work for him, Sara x stephaniesirr wrote: > > > Hi Sara/Sally > > Hard to tell on the pain front but the reaction is the most severe. They have a screening facility in Nottingham I think although the HANDLE trained practitioners travel up from the South. They were certainly very good on the recent course at unravelling then meaning of sensory related behaviour. Guest guest
Hi Guys, Having done the HANDLE exercises for many years along with lots of other sensory stuff... maybe you would be interested in the following. Louise is from Merseyside, (so is great for us Northern mums and dads.... Louise will do private one off assessments along with group training. I have been on one of the brain gym days that she sis years ago, and found it fascinating plus she has been to our home to work with my daughter and her support team. We also bought the brain gym teachers handbook, which is very useful and does a good job of explaining sensory systems and describes each exercise in detail. http://www.movingminds.org.uk/ If you contact Louise, Tell her sent you! cheers Re: NHS again Hi StephWhat about a HANDLE assessment - just to see what they make of it? They have a screening facility in Nottingham I think although the HANDLE trained practitioners travel up from the South. They were certainly very good on the recent course at unravelling then meaning of sensory related behaviour.Zoe> > > > > > > >> > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > We've had terrible SIB here - poor Tom, just miserable. Guest guest
Steph, have just read all your messages as been away for a few days, what a nightmare (again). Its so terrible, your poor wee boy, I know you have had heaps of good advice and am so glad he is feeling a bit better, hope thats continuing. I wondered about teeth?? Or maybe also if taking him off supps for a week or so might show some stuff up, I imagine you have done this a heap of times. How are his stools, overloaded maybe?? I am almost ashamed to say that as its what I always say. Dr Fell told us about cramping causing the toothpaste stools, whats his poohs like? Did you try the s diet, or change anything recently? Is he back at school yet? Could that be stressful. I cant imagine what this is like, it must be awfully frightening. If it was me I would do a bowel clear out, and clear fluids for 24 hours, but as I say thats what I always say. Chicken soup and diluted apple juice has worked for us with clearing out..... We have been trying picolax sachets recently (the type you have before bowel surgery). I even tried it myself!! Yum.... They are quite good for Becks. For me, my tummy felt a bit crampy for a few days after but I know that she needs her bowel cleared out so we are going for this every 3-4 weeks religiously I also liked Darlas suggestion about the drugs, as a last resort, (I know we dont like drugs but sometimes when against a wall, anything that helps is worth a go). Steph if I could do anything, I would, please call me if you feel like it. I hope things resolve, its pretty hard to read all your posts and I cant imagine how it must be for you all right now, scarey for sure. Hugs Caroline xx > Steph, I have less scientific knowledge than anyone else on this list, > so I could be wrong but TMG isn't the same as betaine and pepsin. Guest guest
toothache? You should be able to test for this by giving two ibuprofen -- something like Cuprofen Max. I give this experimentally to Edith when she is mysteriously cranky and sometimes it helps Sally stephaniesirr wrote: > > > Hi Sara/Sally > > Hard to tell on the pain front but the reaction is the most severe.
