I would try to floss the cast. Take a nylon or a bit of other soft thin fabric.

Thread it from top to bottom and gently slide it up and down. This should help

loosen up some sand and get it to fall out. It the fabric gets stuck and can't

go any further don't force it just take it out and try to re thread it in

another place.

Floss, floss, floss. I agree w/ Jenn. That will ensure you have it all

out and its easy. Let us know if you need more direction on doing this.

We have had casts like that and you can remove the petaling on the bottom and stretch the shirt out to shake out the sand (or even rinse it if needed) before you push it back inside and re-petal it. You can also use some panty hose to floss the inside of the cast and see if that helps you. Keep a very close eye on that.... Sand scared me way more than water!
