Guest guest Posted August 27, 2001 Report Share Posted August 27, 2001 Hi Cyndi, Although, my twins are six, Sara (ds) and , I remember distinctly bringing that same issue to Early Intervention.....That smiled more readily when he was a baby than Sara did. They assured me, as well, not to be concerned...that it could have to do with the lower muscle tone of ds babies. Anyway, it quit becoming a concern and smiling and laughing has been a big part of Sara's life. I can relate about the not smiling thing. was the first to truly smile and he smile a lot! It took a lot of work to get old stony-faced Sam to smile when he was an infant! Funny thing is, when I'd take pictures of the boys I could never get (who smiled all the time) to smile for the camera, but boy the camera would sure bring a great big smile to Sam's face! Nice to hear from you again - hope you share more about Connor and na with us again soon! I do have two older children, so I don't fret too too much where Tara is concerned. Plus it helps that Tara is lucky {and me to}to be enjoying good health. Her first year was her worse, upper respitory colds and infections and pneumonia. KNOCK ON WOOD she has been quite healthy since. At 29 months, she eats better than and has better table manners than he! She is also quite the colorer! If I allowed her, she would color ALL the time! Where is much happier playing with his older brother or sister....................... She's pretty good too. She tries to color within the black lines of her coloring books. Speaking of this, I am wondering about other behaivors. I have a friend whose son is 5, with Down syndrome, and he and Maggie share some behaivors. I am wondering about you all's kids. Maggie loves to empty the big plastic toy bins of all toys and then she sits in there. She also has some weird need to close any open door. She will go through the whole house closing doors. Finally, she is always carrying a doll or stuffed animal. She takes care of them. She will carry it to meals, hold it while watching t.v., feed it, put it to bed....Does any of this sound familiar? Not only do S & P have to empty all the toy boxes, they have to throw the contents across the room as far as they can! They too, like to close doors. Not so much of carrying around stuffed animals. Sam is really into puppets lately and he seems to always have at least one on his hand. He talks to it, and it talks back. He feeds it, offers it sips of his juice, etc. It's a hoot! It doesn't matter if it's the tall one or the short one, if she has access to it the toys get dumped. I thought it was just something SHE did because her father will sometimes push her around in it. My BP is well controlled now as well as my potassium. Do I need to have regular checks for adolsterum (spelling?) or anything else? How has my health been? Terrible. I take a lot of meds. repaglinide, metformin, omeprazole, palafer, quetiapine, abilify, cipralex, gabapentin, clonazepam, wellbutrin, zopiclone, crestor. Sounds like we are having the same luck with pyschiatrists, mine left me the first of June. I need to get thru another couple weeks and then look for another one. Has anyone checked your Cortisol level? When I was at NIH they found I had PA masking an increased cortisol level (Subclinical Cushing). I'm still trying to get my info from NIH so I can sort it out but as I understand it they think my adenoma is causing excess aldostrone and cortisol. I also understand it is possible to have one adrenal producing excess aldosterone while the other is producing excess cortisol and that really complicates things!
