Guest guest
Hi all, Just wanted to touch base, it's been a while since I posted. Tim is now seeing an endocrinologist for his PA and she has recently added amiloride 5mg daily to his Inspra 50mg twice daily due to elevated blood pressures. It has had a positive effect and Tim has shed another 5 lbs. of water, wieghing his lowest ever in years at 208lbs. BP's running around 130-140's over 80-90's. What I don't understand is the endo sent Tim for bloodwork as she believed his aldo level would come down with the addition of the amiloride. I'm thinking the aldo level won't be lower because the meds only block the action of the hormone, not the release of it. Am I correct? When Tim was first diagnosed with PA a year and a half ago, his aldo level was 980. It is now nearly 5000 but no adenomas are ever found on any type of imaging. Thoughts on this? Dr. Grim? Husband Tim finally diagnosed with PA (no renin, high ARR and aldosterone, very low K for years) after 5 years on 6 different BP meds in October 2010.) Guest guest
There seems to be a number of us whose adrenals do not show anything - hyperplasia or adenoma. I have only had one scan, but by this point in my medical life I don't put 100% faith that they looked at it right or that they paid attention. Could be it's not there or as Dr G says alot they are so small, but still cause problems, and just not picked up. Guest guest
Sorry it took so long to get dx. Amoride will increase renin and also. How is he doing on DASHING. He is likely outsalting the inspra. May your pressure be low!CE Grim MS, MDSpecializing in DifficultHypertensionOn Jun 8, 2012, at 19:24, regnnicole <regnnicole@...> wrote: Hi all, Just wanted to touch base, it's been a while since I posted. Guest guest
If your renin is low and Aldo high your adrenals are showing a lot. May your pressure be low!CE Grim MS, MDSpecializing in DifficultHypertensionOn Jun 8, 2012, at 20:42, Bingham <jlkbbk2003@...> wrote: There seems to be a number of us whose adrenals do not show anything - hyperplasia or adenoma.
