Guest guest
Trisha It is amazing and pretty scary the number that sugar can do on your body. I had some health issues a couple of years ago that made me re-think some of my eating habits.. It was a real eye opener to me. I started paying attention to all the damage that sugar can do and made some changes. A good book that really helped is Magic Foods for Better Blood Sugar. There are a lot of really good and EASY to follow books out there that can help with that. And they talk about yeast growth in your body and how that affects you. ANYTHING by Don Colbert I would highly recommend too. His books are very informative and easy to follow also. You will do great with this! A bad credit score is 600 below. Checking won't affect your score. See now!

Guest guest
wow carolyn, u have provided me with alot of info and made me realize more of my problem. my best friend and walking partner moved away at the beinning of this month and my walks have been cut down to almost nothing. usually i walk an hr in the morn, 30-60 in the afternoon, and 2 hr at night, mainly cause i like to walk and so does my petey (my shorkie dog) not that we are alone we don't walk as long or far. i need to force myslf to do that again. i thought i was ok cause i was adding so much extra exercising in my day. Now that i look at it i see thats some of my problem i felt and looked thinner doing all that walking. time to do it again!and i know another prob i have too--- i HATE water! HATE IT, only drink it when i have to and after a good run or workout and only because i actually crave water then.i like tea. for every 24 oz of tea u drink u reduce ur chances of stroke by 22% a good thing, all the sugar i use BAD! i know that a HUGE part of my problem and i really try to drink more and will try harder, but water just makes mr thirstier then i was when i started so i can chugg a whole bottle down then another and still be thirsty and i hate that i end up spending just as much time trying to rehydrate myself as it took for the activity. it's easiers and my worth it to me at the time to grab a pepsi take a few drinks half the bottle and i'm good again.now is that all in my head or is there some reason behind this?the yeast thing i DID NOT KNOW! wow that could totally explain alot! i will definitely check into that and my asthma meds, please keep in mind that with alot of lung training, relaxation and what i rarely use the asthma meds\ my inhaler, i can typically work myself out of an attack without the meds (i HATE taking meds as much as i hat water, i don't even take an asprin\tylenol unless i have had a headach for days which is why i no longer get treated for my mental issues i don't want to depend on meds to get me through life).i can agree with u on the pilates i never really feel that burn that must be why i want to do them all day and like them so much. but it's not the only thing i do i really like workout with gilad and doing strength training and full body workout, i can feel the burn immediately with him.but i can't give up the pilates i just feel idk relaxed or comfortable or something with them. so i guess i can use pilates as fun instead of a workout. and i'm ok with that! :-)and on the journal thing i was thinking i should just eat like i have been for a week so i can see where i am going wrong and curb it from there. what do u think, should i do that or throw myself into a healthy diet? Guest guest
water... add lemon juice, use mix-ins like Crystal Light (if you can handle artificial sweeteners), put some herbs in it over night and then take them out before you drink it, put in a wine glass or some other pretty glass that makes you feel special when you drink it, if you like challenges you can challenge yourself (I tell myself I have to drink 2 glasses of water before I can have a diet coke each day... I used to do that anyway and just started doing it again today). Tea is good too as long as you're not adding tons of sugar. Pilates is great for core strengthening, just not a calorie burner. Definitely don't give up the pilates if you enjoy it because it is great for you, but add in cardio and other strength training. Journaling: Do whichever you are most comfortable with and think you'll have the most success with. You might want to start with just a journal of everything you eat just so you can assess where your strengths are (healthiest meal and snack choices & times of day) and where you might struggle more. Then you can start adding in more healthy foods wherever you can. If you feel like you can just jump in and start eating healthier foods (you know what you're eating now including all the mindless nibbling so many of us do) then do that. Whatever you are going to do best with is best. Go for it, Trisha! Re: hi i'm new and i have questions hi trisha!! i would like to make a few comments to your post... please know that im writing from my own experience on these issues and i hope that something i write may be helpful to you...- smoking cigs increase your metabolism and when you quit smoking, you will probably experience a slowness in your metabolism (the speed at which your body uses calories consumed). this is normal and frustrating and will pass as your body adjusts... it takes time and patience.- you may want to ask your dr about the side effects of your asthma meds... one of them might be contributing to weight gain, or to a reluctance to lose weight.- you may want to ask your dr if your asthma meds are increasing the presence of yeast/candida in your body. a yeast overgrowth will produce an uncontrollable desire for sugar.- doing pilates for exercise is great... but it wont make you lose weight on its own as pilates does not normally burn many calories. what burns the most? cardio... walking, running, anything that gets your heart pounding and you breathing fast. what also burns alot of calories? creating muscle on your body through strength training. just basic exercises like squats, lunges, bicep curls, shoulder raises, etc... with a full water bottle in each hand will do for a start. muscle consumes calories just to exist because it is active, living tissue. unlike fat which just sits there and does nothing. as a group, im sure we can help you with an exercise program to start out with, along with some workout video recommendations.- be mindful to properly fuel your exercise. if you dont eat properly, you wont be able to exercise properly, and you will not lose weight. if you starve yourself, your body will slow your metabolism even more. this is not what you want to accomplish. you want to increase your metabolism through eating properly and exercising.- to help yourself feel full so that you do not binge on food, drink alot of water, all day long. binge on water instead of food.- there are a few easy ways to adjust your food intake and produce weight loss.... one is to continue to eat what you want (but please do try to pick healthy foods like fruits, veggies, low fat dairy, low fat meat and whole grains) and cut your portions right in half. if you pick a healthy food, then you can have a full normal serving.- another is to journal every single thing that you eat and drink (no matter what it is, no cheating!) for a week. review your journal to see what you can easily do without each day. for example, one might want to eat a bowl of ice cream every evening for a treat. cut that out and save, like, 250 calories which equals half a pound of weight lost a week (as long as one doesnt replace that decrease with some other fattening food). combine this tactic with exercise that burns 250 calories a day and end up with a total of 3500 calories which equals one pound of weight lost per week.:*carolyn. Guest guest
water... add lemon juice, use mix-ins like Crystal Light (if you can handle artificial sweeteners), put some herbs in it over night and then take them out before you drink it, put in a wine glass or some other pretty glass that makes you feel special when you drink it, if you like challenges you can challenge yourself (I tell myself I have to drink 2 glasses of water before I can have a diet coke each day... Guest guest
thanks letting me know what book to get that's exactly what i wanted to know.quitting smoking was easy really (with the help of those wonderfull lil pills, and yes i am totally against meds but i couldn't do it alone and they worked so i love em) i just didn't realize how many aspects of my loves was revolved around them. even the tiny miniscule parts of life readinga book typing on the computer makking a glass of tea all of it. when i'd see those commericals with those people trying to dress and eat and get int he car and drive w\o cigarette it's was like having to relearn life i laughed how ridiculous that's not how it is come on. but i was wrong to think that cause sure u still know how to hold a cup of coffee but it feels different ur dependency is different.i think keeping the positive attitude will be just as hard as it's going to be doing this weight loss thing the right way and not cheating. but i am determined to do this right and i will succeed! I think it will really help. It should be a good place to start. I use The Calorie King's books. They have a GREAT calorie counter ( after a while you will memorize it:-) and a companion food diary that walks you through what to keep track of - calories burned etc.. They are great and they update the calorie counter once a year to include restaurants too. I have used them for years now. No I haven't ever been a smoker so I can't completely identify with that. I have heard so many people say what you said though - that it is so hard to quit and that they depended on them for so much. I think it is huge that you were able to quit. That is a great accomplishment. Your positive attitude about getting fit will get you far. There is so much wonderful support in this group. You came to a really good place:-) A bad credit score is 600 below. Checking won't affect your score. See now!

Guest guest
Great job Trisha!! Which Gilad did you do or is that the title? How do you like it? I've seen Gilad on FitTV and while his workouts look good (and he does too) the guy bugs me for some reason. I might borrow one of his workouts from the library sometime or do one on FitTV if it is ever on at a time when I can do it (usually I'm catching a couple of minutes while I'm folding laundry or something) just to see if I can stand workout out with him. Try to come up with things to reward yourself with besides Pepsi (or anything with calories). You did really great and you deserve to feel great now and later, don't undo it with something as temporary as a Pepsi (or any other food)! You deserve to be healthy!! Maybe you can take a bubble bath, paint your toe nails, read a book for as long as you want without feeling like you "should" be doing something else, rent a silly movie, whatever you enjoy that would feel like a fun reward without it being food. You deserve to feel great and there are lots of ways to do it without food/high calorie beverages! Some ladies here are putting a dollar in a jar for every workout they do and then they're using the money to buy themselves something just for themselves! I don't know anything about any books or websites for calorie counting. I don't count them. I use the food tracker on www.weightwatchers.com for my journaling and count WW points. I do use www.thedailyplate.com sometimes for nutritional information to figure out points when I can't find what I want on weightwatchers.com but I don't know if that is the best for your needs, it is just what google tends to bring me to when I search on nutritional information for whatever food item. I do use www.thedailyplate.com sometimes for nutritional information to figure out points when I can't find what I want on weightwatchers.com but I don't know if that is the best for your needs, it is just what google tends to bring me to when I search on nutritional information for whatever food item.
