Guest guest
Some places do partial adrenalectomy. Not commonly done so is limited knowledge as to outcome. > > > Hi! Guest guest
If you have ever watched an ADX you come to realize it is a very bloody organ. Guest guest
I decided to look into this and it looks like there is starting to be more interest. The first is a review by NIH and gives lot of good data. It will be interesting to follow over time for long term success and to see if more adenomas develop. Here are 3 stories: Partial adrenalectomy: underused first line therapy for small adrenal tumors. Kaye DR, Storey BB, Pacak K, Pinto PA, Linehan WM, Bratslavsky G. Guest guest
Hi, I had a similar story - mine peaked really high just after having my third baby when I was 37 (had a history of slightly high side BP but nothing needing meds). I had an adrenalectomy last year - all great. I did ask about a partial adrenalectomy at the time i.e. just remove the (in my case 23mm) tumour and the surgeon just reckoned it complicated the surgery too much because he couldn't tell where all the blood vessels were lying etc. So it would become a much longer and more traumatic procedure. He did say he'd consider once he was in there but I think that was just to keep me quiet - I was in and out in 45 minutes so I don't think he spent much time considering it! But I don't think the long term side effects of only one adrenal gland are bad - the other kicks in and does the work of both. I have a friend who had kidney cancer at the age of four and had her kidney removed (with, I presume, the adrenam gland since I don't think it can function alone, floating in space). She's now a happy, healthy, about to turn 40, mum to four kids so I'd say the long term prospects are good. Good luck with the rest of the tests and hope you get a clear cut result, Hester > > Hi! Guest guest
In many cases with kidney cancer they take both the adrenal and the kidney in one fell swoop. Adrenal can be left but tricky as it drains into the renal vein on the L. So they clamp that off first to prevent Ca cells from going into body when they take the kidney.CE Grim MDOn May 8, 2012, at 10:13 AM, hesterfenwick wrote: Hi, I had a similar story - mine peaked really high just after having my third baby when I was 37 (had a history of slightly high side BP but nothing needing meds).
