Hi! I'm a 35 year old guy who started working out in January, partly for

cosmetic reasons and partly to get healthier and stronger. Since I'm no longer

a twentysomething and have never really been physically active before, I wanted

to start out w/ sort of a low-key fullbody workout every other day. I've gotten

some results w/ it but want to move on to the next level... do something a

little more challenging and intense. Can anyone give me any advice as to a

workout routine? Thanks!

That;s a pretty broad question for a fitness professional to answer without

seeing you. Where are you at right now in terms of your fitness? What are you

thinking about for " next level " of challenging/intense? What

resources/facilities are available to you? What do you like to do? " Stronger "

at what? " Healthier " how? What " cosmetic reasons " do you have?

My best advice for you would be to find a knowledgeable local fitness

professional and invest in at least a couple training sessions with that person.

Both American College of Sports Medicine and National Strength and Conditioning

Association have online directories that can point you to fitness professionals

nearby who have chosen to list themselves.

I'm sure that others on this forum will respond with some general ideas that are

reasonable; However your question is not as cut and dried as it might seem.

It's kind of like asking what kind of car to buy. Or where to live once you move

out of your parents' house.

Hi ,,

How have you been working out up till now?

In my opinion there's no need to ditch your current regime: a full body workout

every other day. You could make it more intense by going for the big exercises

and weights.

This is how I like to train:

Warming up

Squats

Push-Pull

Dumbbell curl / lying dumbbell triceps exentsions

Alternate that with

Deadlifts

Dumbbell presses / dumbbell rows

Some arm work

Throw in some cardio in the mix. I like to ride my bicycle, weather permitting.

But the question is, how have you been working out previously?
