Guest guest
It appears that Amiloride has marginal effect on renin...so a better alternate is to block Aldosterone by Spironolactone. Max. PA patient | |Does anyone have any suggestions in how to raise Renin. I am on Amorilide that |has been doubled twice to 20 mg and i have started the dash about 2 mts ago. |With current meds and Dash Renin is .02 aldo is |7.2 bp is uncontrolled now at 170/118. I was taking Spironolactone for about 4 months with no effects except it did help keep pot up, Amoloride keeps the pot up to. I am now working with a very good research dr at Vanderbilt and i am hoping he can figure me out. So far he has only said i am extreame salt sensitive. He wants the Renin level to rise and i didnt know if there was anything I could do or change to help this. Thanks Dan
Guest guest
In a desperate attempt to sleep, looked at 5-HTP. Thought I had better do my homework and found this on wikepedia: 5-HTP can cause hypertension by increasing plasma renin activity, when not co-administered with a peripheral aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase inhibitor, such as carbidopa or benserazide.[23] > > Does anyone have any suggestions in how to raise Renin. Guest guest
I also tried 5-HTP but it did raised my blood pressure and the worst thing for me was that it induced an anxiety attack! It makes sense though since increased renin will mean more angiotensin and vasoconstriction (short term effect). But the problem is NOT low renin but high aldo (the low renin I guess is.our body response to high aldo causing volume expansion and hypertension). I found out that taking more vitamin D will also raise renin (it did for me) but again PA is about high aldo which only spiro/Epler can address together with a low Na/high K aka DASH diet. > > > > Does anyone have any suggestions in how to raise Renin. Guest guest
Im not sure why he wants it to rise. Renin started as only a trace and is now only .02 I think to get secondary bp meds to work. I have been on as many as 8 at one time with no results. Other drs said I had conns then Liddles but now there not sure what, he has not rulled out liddles he only said I was extreamly salt sensitive and is increasing the amoloride to see if it raises the renin.Spirolactone only worked for about 2 weeks which is about the life of any med I take.Amoloride has worked in stoping all over body swelling and muscle swelling but is not helping bp. I am overall healthy except for high bp, It has been out of controll averaging about 180/118 for 25 years. I have taken most all bp meds and every known type at one time with very slight if any results. I have just started with this Dr, he is a research dr and I have faith in him, he knows you well. His name is Dr. Luther > > > > > > Does anyone have any suggestions in how to raise Renin. Guest guest
Maybe need to do a trial to see if meds that raise renin in PA causes adverese effects. > > > > > > Does anyone have any suggestions in how to raise Renin. Guest guest
I am taking the dash method extreamly serious mainly because it is working well and is really not that hard to do. Over the last two weeks by bp has changed to numbers that are not like anything i have seen in the past. My bp is always high 170 over around 115. Now my systolic is too low and diatolic is too high, for the last 2 weeks it averages 124/110. This is extreame dash eating and 20 mg amoloride. I eat only chicken and washed vegetables. I have also lost 17 lbs in 3 weeks. Is this normal and why is the diatolic not coming down > > > > > > Does anyone have any suggestions in how to raise Renin. Guest guest
Your systolic-diastolic difference (which is named pulse pressure) it's too narrow. This is not healthy. You are probably dehydrated (this is called hypovolemia). Look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypovolemia It's possible that you are NOT eating enough salt (you are DASHing to extreme). From 170 drop to 124 it's probably too much in 2 weeks and you body needs time to adjust to the new " normal " . Maybe Dr. Grim will comment more why the diastolic is still that high. (BTW, I'm not a doctor so better to check with an MD). > > I am taking the dash method extreamly serious mainly because it is working well and is really not that hard to do. Guest guest
Unless you are eating entire crates of veggies, if you are only eating chicken and veggies then I'm going to guess that you are not getting nearly enough K to be truly DASHING. In the year before my adrenalectomy, I too ate little other than chicken and veggies (also eggs, fish, and unsalted nuts, but mostly chicken and veggies) and never came close to the recommended amount of K on DASH. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but IIRC most of the K in DASH come from fruits (and by this I also mean botanical fruits such as tomatoes, not just bananas and oranges), grains, and low-fat dairy? -msmith1928 Left laparoscopic adrenalectomy 10/13/11 > > > > > > > > Does anyone have any suggestions in how to raise Renin.
