Yes and here's another thing that happened with low k. I became afraid to go places unless I knew my car was available within a short block away, because I never knew when complete exhaustion would overwhelm me. I could be out and feeling fine, then suddenly start getting "spacey" and then I knew that I only had around 10 to 15 minutes to make it back to the car before feeling like I couldn't go one step farther and possibly being a hazardous driver. Made it pretty hard to plan outings with the family. My NP always offered me anti-depressants to ease my lack of pep and I always told her that I didn't think I was depressed in a clinical sense, just situationally depressed by being able to do so little. My unspoken diagnosis was middle-age-women's-syndrome, that garbage can diagnosis. No matter what I still kept working. Looking

back I wonder how I did it, but we do what we have to do.Another thing with PA is that we don't look sick. My husband could see me dragging around the house, but most people couldn't see anything wrong with me. Guess that's why we all got "depressed" diagnoses.Dianne

I can tell immediately when my potassium is getting low. I will get immediate brain fog and severe lack of concentration. These signs are not textbook symptoms of low potassium. What are some of your first signs of low potassium?45yo AAF 20yr of BP 170/100-220/120. Omg Diane,

I had/have the exact same feeling. I won't park too far away

because I never know when I will get that spacey feeling or

complete exhaustion will take over.

I won't even travel now because of that fear. This disorder has

really taken over my life. I wonder why the feeling occurs so

suddenly? It is a combination of scared, complete anxiety and

feeling of impending doom feeing that is so hard to explain.

It depends on the cause. 80% of the time it is caused by a tumor in the

pituitary as I recall which they remove if possible, usually going through the

nostril. If it is caused by an adrenal adenoma they can remove it and often

correct the problem. Subclinical leaves some to descression which I found out

although I do not feel they have considered all effects that excess cortisol can

cause (a good reason why the PTN should be consulted!) I hope to have

everything pulled together including 2nd and 3d opinions w/i a month and will

probbly see if they want to guess again! (Controversy is not something I deal

well with in my current condition.)

There are some drugs which I understand have very limited success and many side

effects. I understand there may be some new drugs on the horizon and currently

being tested.

If all else fails they remove both adrenals and you are on drugs for the rest of

your life. In this case the drugs are mandatory and if you miss them you die.

Any possibility of OSA? Is common in PA it seems.CE Grim MDOn Jul 12, 2012, at 11:12 AM, a Hall wrote:Once when my K+ was low I fell asleep at my computer while I was reading email, my chin literally bounced off my chest.

The first patient has this. However before this site I had never recognized it as a possible symptom of low K and still not convinced. Had always thought it was due to drugs to treat the BP and went away because the drugs were stopped after surgery. However the data accumulation here is certainly compatible with low K causing brain fog.Need some good studies.CE Grim MDOn Jul 12, 2012, at 11:43 AM, Phyllis wrote: brain fog and lack of concentration are not listed.

I would be suprised if I have OSA but it's always possible. This is not something that happens on a regular basis, just when K+ is low.

Any possibility of OSA? Is common in PA it seems.

I realize we now have the benefit of hindsight, but getting them/us/anyone to actually look at those 2 together seems so obvious and common sense, that I am amazed that even faced with HTN, hypokalemia, and even add mutliple resistance to meds, young age, very healthy otherwise and young, yet they don't or won't.

And bringing it up is often met with resistance. I had brought it up during my years undiagnosed. I even bought my own spiro once online - I was in the middle of the hyperthyroidism and felt so horrible that I don't recall giving it a chance to work or noticing if it did. I told you the story of the 2 NP's friends and who I worked with who had a resistant HTN young male on multiple BP meds, he was very athletic, and they did renin and aldo serum - on his meds, though I gave them your paper and talked with them.

When I suggested "let's try spiro" they flat out would not (and there's so many on here with similar stories about med after med after med and yet the docs will not try spiro - sure, it has some side effects, but also some great remodeling properties if it is PA and heart issues.)

Instead they gave him a $100 new renin blocker (his was normal on serum) . THAT is what I cannot get. What is it that scares them about spiro or PA in general? They act like to acknowledge it is taboo. Just weird if you ask me.

Meditation has shown great effects on lowering BP also.

waking up with AM nervousness/anxiety could be low blood sugar as much as it could be a cortisol issue, or a catecholamine issue. or even an OSA issue (waking up after a prolonged low oxygen state?) and could even just be GAD or a true depression, if one is prone to those two and wakes up and finds facing the day daunting as an anxiety response could be a reasonable expectation, among many things.

Just throwing some ideas out there. I have another issue sort of in this realm that I notice on the 'net many peoplecomplain off related to insomnias, but there seems to be no explanation for. I fall asleep, even in a fast dream state, but within minutes I bolt awake, heart racing and pounding, startled, sometimes shaking, and then I can usually not get back to sleep within hours. I can repeat this over many times in the night. Avoiding caffeine/stimulants makes no difference. I have asked sleep docs and they talk about a surge of catecholamines possibly, but no one really knows.

Aggravating though. AND I see when I google it I have ALOT of nighttime company with the same symptoms.
