Guest guest
, first, to help you we need a lot more info like meds you are on and the way they tested you. Most doctors we hear about don't do it correctly so the results are worthless. (Yours is one of them if he is jumping from an aldo test to the ct-scan.) To determine if you are suspect for PA he should do an aldo/renin (ARR) test and at the same time a 24hr urine test. There are many meds you can not be on. A good explaintion of this process is in our files at " Aldosterone Causes of Hypertension " . This is written by the doctors at NIH that some of us have been treated by. (I suggest you print a copy for your doctor, if he is going to do it he might just as well do it right!) Get your info together and we can help - welcome aboard! > > Hello my name is . Guest guest
The Aldo is not the reason for an adrenal scan. But high aldo low renin and a 24 hr urine for Na K, creat and aldo +-cortisol It is drug resistant HTN, ESP with low K, poly and nocturia and cramps muscle pains and nocturia, fatigue and maybe even brain fog. Guest guest
Thank you very much for your help and resource I'll print it tomorrow when the kids wake. I was vague, I get accused of that. My meds are Bystolic 10mg morning and Diovan 160mg at night. When my BP is not controlled it is 180/115. With 5mg Norvasc it was 150/95 (cardiologist) With just Diovan it was 180/110 (PCP) This is the first doctor that put me on a second medication to lower it to 118/72! It hasn't been that low in over 6 years. I gave up on my cardiologist and other doctors trying to help my HBP, palpitations, dizzy spells and low blood sugar events. and just lived with it for a long time. My husband noticed I was urinating A LOT and drinking an amazing amount of water. He was afraid I was diabetic.so I went to my PCP 6 weeks ago and was referred to an Endo. He did a full blood test on just about everything, chest xray, ultrasound on my enlarged thyroid, MRA on Renal arteries and now a CT scan b/c of the abnormal bloodwork. He didn't go into much detail about why he was looking for the tumor, or what happens if we don't find one... To be honest there are a lot of questions I should have asked him, but I was a bit shell shocked. *side note*I use to run 16-20 miles a week I lost over 40lbs 3 years ago and I am considered very fit. I did 3 half marathons in 2011... Not so fit since OCT..... Dizzy spells, muscle cramps (even when I don't run) the constant bathroom breaks... and now i am gaining weight! even tho my diet continues to be the same. I physically can't run anymore. I get tired just doing house work now. These were my main complaints to all the doctors... did that help any? I am going to go read the files now, Thank you again! > > > > Hello my name is . Guest guest
The blood pressure couldn't be controlled likely because they always had you on the wrong medicine, most of us had been on many, sometimes as many as 5 (there may have been some on more!) blood pressure meds and I believe the average time to a diagnosis seems to hover around 5 years in some with very dangerously high blood pressures. In my case and some others ONLY a mineralcorticoid blocker like spironolactone or Epelerone will work because it blocks the aldosterone, which is being overproduced by our adrenal glands, either from a tumor, or from overgrowth (hyerplasia). I say that, but the DASH diet is a lifesaver for some too. The peeing all night is because the aldosterone is telling the body to hold on to your sodium - too much so - and is dumping your potassium in the urine and makes you go all night (and likely your magnesium too and maybe not holding on to calcium either). Likely, if it is hyperaldosteronism, or Conn's Syndrome, then the whole basis for the physical woes lies mostly in your potassium levele being low, which we have found doctors and NP's and PA-C's tend to blow off, even when it is low, as a non-factor, but I can vouch for me it WAS the factor in my fatigue, leg weakness, brain fog, tingles, etc....Once I fixed my potassium I started feeling like a new man - and fixing the BP of course and I know I went from 2003ish to late 2010 in and out of the hospital, being misdaignosed etc. And then I was only in my mid-late 30's. The excess aldosterone is the stinker IF we have too much salt which was found by Dr Grim to be right around 1500 per day. Once I started getting serious with the DASH diet and got my salt to 1500 I sometimes had too low a blood pressure. I now only DASH and sometimes take metoprolol for my heart rate, which gets too fast, but we don't know why right now. But if I get 1500 or above it seems my BP goes up immediately. And it's not the salt shaker, but all that hidden salt in the mostly packaged foods. I cut out sodas (I still enjoy some) and mostly packaged foods, go with as much natural non-packaged stuff and it is actually easy to DASH diet. Guest guest
Oh my 5 medicines! OK, I'm a light weight I was 31 right after my second pregnancy, my blood pressure shot up. I am 38 now.... PCP, Cariologist tried probably 8 different meds. over 6 years to control my BP. Seemed like nothing worked. Until now, yeah...I have PVC's about 1,600 skipped heart beats a day and took toporal for that for 6 yrs. (can't help but feel that is realted to my endo issues) I have to admit 3 years ago I stopped taking medicine and going to doctors b/c they didn't know what to give me! I was frustrated. I was swelling very badly starting in Oct. thought it was the norvasc and just lived with it b/c i didn't want them to change my meds. again! but like i said, symptoms have steadily gotten worse over the past seven months. muscle aches, fatigue, dizziness, swelling, tingling in my feet, frequent urination (to the point of freaking out my husband)not being able to live my busy life in general. Now I lay on the couch I may not have Conn's at all... its very rare. I just wanted to educate myself as much as possible with the information I had (abnormal high aldostrone)so I can ask better questions at my next Dr. appt. Reading up on ya'lls information, and what I have learned so far I feel a bit more empowered. And I will keep reading the posts too. You guys are full of great info. > > > > > > Hello my name is . Guest guest
Keep an open mind that they rarely draw the potassium right. It is easy to falsely elevate it by the way they draw it, like using a tourniquet and when they say that it is "borderline" yet you feel like crap, I'd stay very suspicious. Guest guest
Hi , You are REALLY lucky to find a doctor and go that far with a PA diagnostic in only a couple of months (since oct 2011 I assume). Your symptoms are exactly like mine (and many other here): " HBP, palpitations, dizzy spells and low blood sugar events " ...... Not so fit since OCT..... Dizzy spells, muscle cramps (even when I don't run) the constant bathroom breaks... and now i am gaining weight! even tho my diet continues to be the same. " I have all this and some more (like insomnia, sweating, tachycardia, LVH, muscle twitching/tremors, malabsorption syndrome, headache etc) I also can relate to the weight gain. I've lost 20+ pounds before this started and then while DASHing (so eating a lot healtier with virtually no fat etc) I've gained all back and some more (in fact I'm at my highest weight ever!). There was a debate here about weight gains and PA but I think that it is mostly water retention due to high aldo. Some here had adrenalectomy and they lost all that back and most if not all symptoms resolved. For me DASHing is helping a great deal although not all symptoms are gone but at least I can function on a daily basis. > > Thank you very much for your help and resource I'll print it tomorrow when the kids wake. > > I was vague, I get accused of that. My meds are Bystolic 10mg morning and Diovan 160mg at night. > When my BP is not controlled it is 180/115. > With 5mg Norvasc it was 150/95 (cardiologist) > With just Diovan it was 180/110 (PCP) > This is the first doctor that put me on a second medication to lower it to 118/72! Guest guest
It is very difficult to gain water weight only. Must also have excess salt. Well maybe if you drink heavy water ;-)CE Grim MDOn May 23, 2012, at 12:40 PM, lvasiliu@... wrote: Hi , You are REALLY lucky to find a doctor and go that far with a PA diagnostic in only a couple of months (since oct 2011 I assume).
