Guest guest
First thing is to not eat cottage cheese. Has a lot of salt in it. Yogurt much better choice and Greek Yogurt even better. If you rear welcome letter should have information on right way to test for hyperaldosteronism. go to files and read Evolution_of_PA-Grim.pdf and Endocrine_Society_PA_Guidelines.pdf > > The spikes have been hard to control like 190 over 115. Guest guest
Looks like the dash diet is also good for type II diabetics . I will look at recent tests run by ER, Endo, and PP to see if they covered all the basis for determination of Hyperaldosteronism. I ran by a doctor a couple of years for specific testing but not sure they took it seriously but my new PP may try to put it together ! Will review all these posts and files and try to figure out how to talk to her about it ! I eat at a local hospital and try to keep my sodium below 1500 daily but its hard and think I will have to take supplements if I can figure out what all to take ! I get greens there with protein . Being a one person household I waste food trying to do it myself plus I don't like cooking or cleaning up! My home snacks seem to get me in trouble ! A few years ago I snacked on licorice and that sent me to the hospital for BP spikes by the glyscerric ?? acid per I think your site and hershey site ! I gave that up too ! Most of these things I have determined on my own beyond the doctors with massive research ! Ive wondered if sucralose could cause spikes too like the licorice ! Its in my daily vitamins I started 4+ months ago ! I quit them after the spikes last week because there seemed to be some internet concerns and a cumulative compound effect ! I thought getting my potassium up might free me up on sodium but apparently not ! I never add salt but do use Dash alternative on occasion ! I have the Dash book but will have look for it or may buy another copy! I think I am going to have to get a digital recorder to record everything I eat or take and the effects as they occur ! Thanks for your help ! > > > The spikes have been hard to control like 190 over 115. Doubling and tripling meds ! > > > > In December I had Potassium tested and it was below acceptable range. Guest guest
About the same time as the spikes I had pain from my lower L back , L buttocks, L testicle, down to L knee . I see postings on tumors on this site. Could those cause that pain ! Its being diagnosed as old age to pinched nerve so far ! I was put on celebrex samples that my insurance would not fill , and ER put me on a muscle spasm relaxant, stool softner, and pain killer which I have quit with the reduction in pain levels and continued spikes ! > > > > > The spikes have been hard to control like 190 over 115. Guest guest
Your description of your pain sounds exactly like mine only on the other side! I was even on Oxycodone and Methedone for years trying to control it! It resolved when I got PA totally under control. (I blamed it on the excess aldosterone since I still had the tumor but had the aldostrone controlled w/Spironolactone.) > > > > > > > The spikes have been hard to control like 190 over 115. Guest guest
If K has been a problem this is most likely the cause of these pains.Would recommend the 14 day DASH plan in the book to the letter to test it. Guest guest
Don't have numbers from NIH yet but they never mentioned it either low or high. Low or high, I know I got as high as 5.0 and the pain was constant for 6 years. Not hard to get blood from as long as they take it from the veins in my hand. > > > > > > > > > > > > > The spikes have been hard to control like 190 over 115. > > > > Doubling and tripling meds ! > > > > > > > > > > > > > > In December I had Potassium tested and it was below acceptable > > > > range. Guest guest
Veins in hands tend to be smaller then arms so they tend to use smaller needle to draw blood. Smaller needles then 19 guage tend to cause higher adnormal K. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > The spikes have been hard to control like 190 over 115. > > > > > Doubling and tripling meds ! > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > In December I had Potassium tested and it was below acceptable > > > > > range. Guest guest
Define early. I know I had the tumor in 2005 and the flank pain in 2007. Guest guest
Right but just checking. Indeed most with Conn's are normokalemic in my analysis. Dr. Conn even called this the Grim Hypothesis in one of his reviews. Need to find the reference again however.I have just stumbled on to Google Scholar. You can enter Dr. JW Conn and get access to almost all of his publications which are of great interest for the history of Primary Aldosteronism.Still makes great reading. Especially his reveiws of his studies of human adaptation to heat using sweat Na/K etc. CE Grim MDOn May 13, 2012, at 10:34 PM, wrote: Define early. Guest guest
What are the thoughts on why they not low K? What was the theory behind those with normal K , yet have Conn's? because we must be identifying the Conn's based on chronic HTN resistant to meds other than MCB's, and then high aldosterone levels and the aldo/ renin ratio. Guest guest
Doesn't CA effect how K moves in and out of blood? > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > The spikes have been hard to control like 190 > > over > > > > 115. > > > > > > > > > > Doubling and tripling meds ! > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > In December I had Potassium tested and it was > > > > below acceptable > > > > > > > > > > range. Guest guest
Recommending re-read my evolution paper with pen and paper in hand to draw the figures as you read it.Low K is a function of amt of aldo made, diet K and Na and sweat losses. And of course proper blood drawing. The first sign of Conn's is a rise in BP. So should be considered in all with HTN but testing costs too much so most are not tested early on.CE Grim MDOn May 14, 2012, at 1:30 AM, Bingham wrote: What are the thoughts on why they not low K? What was the theory behind those with normal K , yet have Conn's? because we must be identifying the Conn's based on chronic HTN resistant to meds other than MCB's, and then high aldosterone levels and the aldo/ renin ratio. Something had to bring to the identifying table. Was it the resistant HTN only? I know I had the tumor in 2005 and the flank pain in 2007. If Mcs sells low NA and high K you are correct there (remember, I was a tour bus driver during those years.) An finlly is your statement based on current information or what you learned when you worked with Dr. Conn? (Everything I have researched with recent information says more than half of the PTNs w/PA are not hypokalemic!)> > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > > > The spikes have been hard to control like 190 over > > 115.> > > > > > > > Doubling and tripling meds !> > > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > > > In December I had Potassium tested and it was > > below acceptable> > > > > > > > range. Guest guest
Good articles. Still recommend reading my evolution article as it makes it more clear why it can take years for the Dx to be made.CE Grim MDOn May 14, 2012, at 4:58 AM, wrote: Do these two help?
