Guest guest
Hello All, First off,I thank you for your responses on my matter. I finally broke down and went to the emergency room and got an XRAY..No fracture and structurally they said my knee looked good. But what they did see was a lot of blood build up in the area of the swelling. I then went and got an MRI.. I was said to have a Severe Contussion and possibly a patella strain? They said as the swelling would go down, I would regain flexibility when i flex my knee.. So now,I have to do my OWN rehab because I have shelled out enough on hospital visited.. Tonight I got on the nautilus leg press machine, and I did single leg presses..The pain is there obviously,as it feels like something is pulling, but I wasnt unbearable and I was able to do 3 sets of 10. Im guessing that this will be a prolonged rehabbed because this tendon is not an easy one to heal.. I will my next competition but it is not as important is me being healthy. I cant do olympic lifts, plyometrics or any of the stuff that a fighter really needs to do.. Can anyone give me any ideas on how to possibly rehab this injury and regained the flexibility I previously had? Any research links would be helpful.Thank you all. .Archield Florida,USA Re: Knee Injury of some sort. Hello - I'm sorry you're hurting and hesitate to see a doc - I'm sure you're aware that none of us can make such decisions for you, but we can on line give you our take on " what we would do if this were our knee " . I mean, nobody in their right mind would prescribe or tell you to do anything without seeing you and examining you... and I do sympathize with you both on the insurance situation and the pending competition. I think if this were my knee and I'd suffered a direct strike, that coupled with the fact I was having some difficulty with stairs, and with putting my weight on it, I could be suffering anything from a simple dislocation of that kneecap tracking poorly from moved out of place and irritation of all the " meat " around that kneecap to bone fracture to a complete surgical situation... and I could need anything from a really good sports MT to a sports surgeon....sigh. Previously I've had to do a lot of reading and yes, self guessing on my own knee and sorting out what it was and what it wasn't. Since I'm an MT and I do a lot of work with injuries, what I would be doing for myself is comparing the two knees and feeling carefully around to see where that kneecap is - or see someone I trust who does the same style work I do as a first step. That's my choice as the least expensive and first step for my own body generally when I'm not sure what's happening and also I would be taking my level of pain into account - and gut feel as to fracture or something " terribly wrong " in there... if the pain was keeping me awake that too would factor in... I would also be halting training involving that leg right away until I got it solved - and that would be my first priority with a competition end of November, I would be facing the " go/no go " very quickly to compete or not. I've had to sit out of a nationals before and worlds from a knee injury and it's not what I'd want, but it's what would likely be best if this is serious. Depending on what I found looking around that knee and again, gut feel coupled with the rest of it, if I was not sure about that kneecap's being in 1 piece or possible fracture or bone chips in there, I'd be getting the xray - probably from 1 of those urgent care places which might save me money...and I'd ask my friends for their suggestions if I needed a doc or an mri. I'd be hoping like hell it wasn't major and really hoping for it not to be surgical.. I'd also look for some of those " free or cheap chiro xray ads " thinking I might be able to get that xray cheap - I have health insurance but it's really pathetic, costs me 7k out of pocket before they cover anything...and costs me a lot to have it. That's what I would likely do if my knee was doing this - please keep in mind this is not a direct recommendation for your knee, but what I would do if mine as acting in a similar fashion. I know we do have members of the list in your area and perhaps they will step forward with some suggestions on less expensive options for xray or other medical things if they have them. That's the best I can do for anybody I'm not working with and keep in mind, this is not a diagnosis, nor saying you should do any of this...and I'm sure the rest of the members here will do what they can to comment to you, I'm sure we are all feeling your frustration and concern - and many of us do know what it's like to have to deal with this sort of injury and the unknown - and pending competition. Please let us know what happens and I hope you successfully compete. The Phantom aka Schaefer, CMT/RMT, competing powerlifter Denver, Colorado, USA Knee Injury of some sort. Hello All, I am looking for help on an injury I suffered at sparring practice about a week and half ago. I was sparring in taekwondo and I threw a roundhouse kick to my opponents torso and he blocked it with his knee and it hit my knee.Well,it feel like the inside of my knee right inside of the knee, yet at the same time it feels like the thigh right about the knee cap a bit.To be honest I cant really tell.It stiffened immediately and has remained stiff all though I was able to maintain descent athletic ability just without the use of that leg. The next day,my knee was swollen pretty bad. It was like I had no knee cap at all,and that my whole upper leg was my thigh. I have problems bringing the heel of my foot to my my butt and I had problems squatting because I was in pain quite a bit.I also had problems walking up and down steps as well. Now,Ive iced it a bit, and I even took a couple days off to rest it and the swelling finally started to go down quite a bit on saturday and it has got ta better since, but when I squat, I get a pain that feels like its right on the inside of the knee cap. I also get a bit of a strain when I try to jump around a bit or put a descent amount of weight on the leg when it comes to kicking...And as ive said before, bringing the heel of my foot to my butt is painful and it seems as though ive lost quite bit of flexibility.. I kind of have to be my own doctor on this(no health insurance),and I have a major international open at the end of november.. Can anyone give me an Idea of what may be wrong with me? I know its a patella injury,im just not sure what kind?I can straighten my leg fine, just bending it hurts a bit. How long do I REALLY need to stay off of it?How do I rehab it and regain flexibility? I appreciate all responses,as I am starting to worry a bit. Thank You. .Archield Florida,USA
Guest guest
Hey! Glad to hear it wasn't anything worse! Honestly, MRIs of a joint that's dealing with fluid build-up can be hit or miss. So don't hesitate getting a second opinion if things don't improve at all. Not sure what a " patella strain " means, though ... That said, if the original diagnosis is correct, then father time and some TLC will prolly be your best initial rehab. I'd just limit any weight-bearing activities 'til the swelling is significally better.... even leg presses and squat machines should get limited action with barely moderate weight(wouldn't yet do single leg stuff, though). And swelling isn't just reflected by how big the knee may look. If you still have stiffness/pain when pulling that heel to your butt, chances are there's still some fluid around the joint that's not allowing your knee to flex as far as it should. Just keep in mind that getting any swelling to a bare minimum is top priority. It'll prolly take a good while but just let that fluid drain out over time. Constistent ice over and around that medial spot will help, esp if you've been on your feet a lot or were pretty active that day. And if you have access to a fitness bicycle the motion will help pump in/out that fluid. If you can take an inflammatory pain killer it'd prolly be a good idea when anticipating an active day on your feet. Once the swelling is gone and most of your range of motion is back, then you can focus on simple strength training to rehab that knee. Hopefully, it wont' take too much. Wishin' ya a good recovery and take care! Crawford, NSCA-CPT Washington, DC > > > Hello All, > First off,I thank you for your responses on my matter.
