Guest guest
It's been while since I posted. We are out of cast #2! We got Drue's brace yesterday. We are at 13* out of cast, we go back in one month for xrays in brace. He is not a happy camper. I don't know if it's just because I go so used to cast life and a routine, but this brace is really hard for me. Few questions: The cast is soooo low on his bottom that I have to totally take it off to get diaper on. Any suggestions? Is this how it should be?? I was used to tucking diaper up under the cast, but this has to come off...which causes tears at every diaper change because he doesn't want it back on! Then mommy has to hold in the tears, too. Should I have to remove it for diapers? Also, we are working on potty training and yesterday, he went to the toilet and I couldn't get the diaper off without undoing brace, etc, so then we were too late. I also had them put the straps in the back, because I knew he would try to take it off, BUT, now I have to unvelcro it, and if I don't remove it totally during diapers, velco sticks to whatever he is laying on Maybe I should've had them in front?? I will get pictures on in a bit so you can sorta see how low it is and what I am talking about. Once we get it back on, he sobs a bit and I give him extra loving, and he is off and running. He had a bit of trouble bending over again, but I think he is getting used to it again. I had holes drilled to get some air, but the undershirt was drenched last night when we took it off for bed. I have a muscle tank top shirt on today under it. The ortho said shirts without seems are better because they don't press into the skin and leave marks. Hoping to pick some up in colors and some plain old onesies, as mentioned by someone. Anyway, I know it is an adjustment, just like the cast, but any suggestions would be great!! We are very thankful we are to this point and can't wait till all of our babies are through with this journey!!! We will enjoy bath time, swim time, and pray like crazy for a month that I know what I am doing, getting it on correctly, the tears stop, and we don't regress!!!
