Guest guest
, I didn't participate in the poll, but my daughter is 2 and still sleeps in a bouncy seat. She is fed through the night through a g-tube and vomiting has always been a problem, so the bouncy seat keeps her upright. I did mention it to her orthopedist once, but he wasn't concerned. It does give me pause though... mom to Audrey, 2 years 2nd cast, SLC > > I wonder if/how we can get a doctor to do an official, medical study regarding the possibility of extended amount of time spent in baby " seats " affecting their spines. You may have noticed/participated in the poll on this board about this. I find it VERY interesting that 39% of the people polled said their baby spent large amounts of time in their " seat " ...for LONGER than 4 months! > > In our case, had reflux (and laryngomalacia likely due to the reflux), so her doctors recommended she sleep in a semi-upright position in her infant carseat. Well, she liked it so much and slept so great in it, we kept her sleeping in it (exclusively - she never slept flat) for NINE months! Looking back, it seems almost ludicrous, but at the time, it " worked for us " , so we continued to do it. I did mention it to her pediatrician on numerous occasions and he always assured me that it was fine. I tried many times to get her to sleep " flat " , but she hated it and slept horribly, so we always went back to her seat (which, by the way, she actually outgrew around 6 months for use in the car, so we just left it in her crib). > > How could we get a doctor to look into a study about this? At the very least, if it did show a correlation, we could get " seat " manufacturers to put a warning with the seats (specific to spinal growth). Also, pediatricians and other doctors could be made aware of the danger and stop recommending that babies sleep in them (I had more than one doctor recommend it for 2 of my kids for reflux reasons). > > Does anyone have any thoughts about this? I gave our current casting doc a print-out of the survey/poll and he said it was " very interesting " , but that was the extent of his interest. > > I really think this is a valid observation! > > ~, Mom to : ) >
