Thank you, - but the subject that got us into this little reminder of the

body's functions was " joint detoxification " and " burnt toast, artificial

sweeteners, pcbs " and other bad things in our joints allegedly requiring a

trampoline for removal.

The skin thankfully also does its job without a lot of intervention from our own

conscious selves or there would be fewer survivors when the water goes out due

to an emergency, that although we fail in upkeep sometimes due to force majeure

or our own wish to not shower and perhaps loofah (though this can lead to

microtears and using a loofah that has bacterial contamination may be argued to

be acting against our own self interest!), the body is quite capable of many

procedures before we think of tinkering with what already occurs in a quite

well, NATURAL and unimpeded fashion. :)

Hi Ralph,

Correct, and I might add the " SKIN " to that list. The sweat glands and to a

lesser degree the sebaceous glands serve dual functions, one being

elimination.

While many seem to focus on " intake " , particularly nutritional, few give

equal attention to elimination. (maybe with the exception of those we might

call health nuts)

I might also suggest that there are what some might consider conscious

nutritional and other practices that can enhance this process, such as care

to drink sufficient fluids, eat sufficient fiber, maintain a healthy and

friendly bacterial balance, and regular activity levels that stimulate

perspiration. Some might even include bathing and or showering with a loofa

like (rough) device to improve exfoliation.

Some of those are " preventative " to toxic intake and some are assistive to

improved elimination of waste and toxins.

You are correct however the skin's primary function is to prevent entry of

toxins and as a heat regulator. The sebaceous glands are for the most part for

secretion of oils as protectant.

As you point out the less toxins we take in the less there is to remove.

However

we must also remember that our body does produce by products which if not

eliminated properly can become toxic. Our lungs remove excess CO2, our kidneys

remove Ammonia (by product of protein metabolism) as well as uric acid (another

by product of protein metabolism) just to mention a few products that can become

toxins if not eleminated.

the items you mentioned (pcbs, artificial sweetners etc) do no make it to

the joints. The synovium which encapsulates the joints is very selective in what

it allows to enter the synovial fluid.

Would you have any studies showing that toxins are expelled via sweat? I've

Hi Roy,

You might Google the topic and see.

It is quite clear that we lose Sodium via perspiration, but some believe

there is also some metals loss and I believe that is a little less certain.

Please note, I did not intend make a specific claim of " detoxification " , but

" elimination " .

My assertion was that the SKIN is also an organ of elimination, meaning that

substances leave the body through it. Some of them in higher concentrations

may be considered toxins, but that was not the primary intent of my post.

Don't want to get in an exchange about detoxing via sweating claims.
