Congrats on getting into the swing of cast life! The youngest child that I know of being casted was about 4 months old, but perhaps I'm wrong. Noelle's skin was always really itchy after a cast came off and a bit bruised, but nothing serious. An Aveeno bath and a little Aquaphor works wonders. Bring them with you to your next cast change and you should be fine. I'm so happy that Sierra is doing so well! - Noelle's mommy, 3 years oldRochester NYCasted 8 times for 1 1/2 years and in first brace!reflux, mild plagiocephaly, mild torticollos, hypotonia, ligament laxity, suspected Ehler's Danlos III

HI EVERYONE! JUST WANTED TO SAY HOW AMAZING SIERRA IS DOING HER 1ST CAST!! SHE WALKING, LAUGHING..THINGS ARE RETURNING TO ARE NORMAL ROUTINE..I AM SO GREATFUL!!! SHE WENT FOR HER 12 MO. CHECK UP YESTERDAY & GOT 2 SHOTS...DID NOT LIKE THEM OF COURSE. SHE WAS 20 LBS. 4 OZ. DAY OF CASTING & 20 LBS. 8 OZ. TWO WEEKS LATER SO SHE IS EATING WELL!!! SHE WAS 30" IN HT. SO SHE IS REALLY GROWING FROM HER NINE MO. VISIT. SHE IS 33 DEGREE OUT OF CAST & DR. K SAYS HE IS EST. 25 DEGREE IN CAST. WE GO BACK JUNE 9TH FOR CAST REMOVAL & AN MRI...SHE HAS NOT HAD ONE..JUST TO MAKE SURE THERE IS NOTHING ELSE GOING ON. THEN WE CAN TAKE HER OVERNITE CAST FREE & BATHE AND ALL THAT GOOD STUFF...I'M LITTLE NERVOUS OF WHAT HER SKIN WILL BE LIKE. THEN WE GO BACK JUNE 10TH FOR AN X-RAY..AFTER HER SPINE HAS HAD TIME TO RELAX OVER NITE AND 2ND CAST WILL BE PUT ON. I'M WONDERING WHAT SHOULD I BE EXPECTING..ON DEGREE OF CURVE??? I KNOW EVERY CASE IS DIFFERENT...

BUT AT SIERRA'S EARLY AGE I AM HOPING FOR THE DEGREE TO BE GOING DOWN! I JUST HAVE THIS REALLY GREAT FEELING ABOUT IT!!! HER PED. DID DO AN ULTRA SOUND ON HER KIDNEYS AND THEY ARE NORMAL & HIPS ALSO!!! JUST WANTED TO THANK EVERYONE ON THIS SITE...IT IS WONDERFUL TO HAVE PEOPLE WHO WILL LISTEN & RESPOND BACK. DOES ANYONE KNOW THE YOUNGEST AGE OF A CHILD THAT HAS BEEN CASTED?? JUST WONDERING! LOVE TO ALL,KRISTI D. JONES MOMMY TO SIERRA 12 MO. 1ST CAST 2ND WEEK 33 OUT OF CAST 25 IN CAST

Out of cast day hugs are very sweet!!! Bring a gentle lotion/cream you have tested before and that her skin likes. We also do the Aveeno bath, then smear Calendula cream all over, but some kids do better with Aquaphor- you don't want her dry or too itchy and you want to give her skin a chance to heal a bit if there is redness. Hey Kristi!

I'm so glad Sierra is doing so well!  Yay!  Having the first few days in the first cast be so rough is really stressful--thinking you can't possibly make it through a whole cast like that, much less more than one cast!  But what a relief when things settle down after the problem gets fixed.  (We had similar thing with Todd's first cast--hip sore, needed trimming, then everything changed for the better.)  Looks like we will miss you in Bham by a couple of weeks.  It would be neat to meet up there sometime.  :o)

, When are you going to be in Bham next? We still have not got the first cast put on (again). She is scheduled for May 21st, if all goes well and she is better. So far all of our treatments have worked it is just a matter of keeping her well for 2 weeks.AlyssaFrom: D <dew.writes@...>infantile scoliosis treatment Sent: Sat, May 8, 2010 8:43:13 PMSubject: Re: Re: SIERRA...2ND WEEK IN 1ST CAST...UPDATE!

Kristi,

This is the best news EVER! Its just amazing how quick our children

adjust. Now, you can mark the hip/kidney issues of your worry list and

just enjoy your little Sierra, who is now receiving the Gold Standard for

PIS.

Congrats!!
