Guest guest
Despite the reservations described in my earlier post, my Endocrinologist has persuaded me to come off Spironolactone with a view to running a number of tests, including eventually AVS, in order to explore the possibilites for surgery. I have taken Spiro for some years (50 mg a day) can I expect any symptoms when I go " cold turkey " next week? Will I for example get stress symptoms when the aldosterone that has been blocked for years by the Spiro suddenly hits my system. I am 60 years old, my monthly repeat prescription is listed below – 28 10.0 mg Bisoprolol Fumerate tablets (one per day) > 84 4.0 mg Doxazosin tablets (three per day) > 28 32.0 mg Candesartan tablets (one per day) > 28 50.0 mg Spirononlactone tablets (one per day) > 28 200.0 mcg Moxonidine tablets (one per day) > > 56 20.0 mg Omeprazole capsules (one per day) > 200 Solpadol Capsules (maximum 8 per day) > Two Ventolin inhalers (as required)
Guest guest
Hey Alan, I recently did, mostly because the pharmacy and my doc couldn;t seem to communicate, but as long as I DASH well - and I noticed stopping the soda - even though it wasn't much - has kept my pressure great. In your case though IF you DASH and do all the other things right will they then NOT find what they want? I mean will they say you don;t have it because you are now taking care of yourself? I ask because I wouldn't want you to start over with them denying it or refusing to believe you have it because the tests aren't showing it BECAUSE now you're living like a Conn's patient should. Follow what I mean? Do they want you to have a high salt diet and so on so they can test? Guest guest
Hi Thanks for the response. I am not DASHing as my domestic arrangements make it difficult to go on a special diet. Also none of the Doctors I have spoken to have stressed the importance of diet in fact I can only recall it being mentioned once and that was some years ago. Maybe Britain is a bit behind other countries in this respect. The Doctors have said they expect my BP to go up once I stop taking Spiro but seem to think the risk is worth taking. My main concern was should I expect anxiety and stress symptoms from the increase in stress hormones when I stop taking Spiro. Still guess I will find out soon enough next week when I stop taking it. > > > From: Alan <alanttt3@...> > Subject: About to go " cold turkey " on Spironololactone - what can I expect? > hyperaldosteronism > Date: Thursday, March 15, 2012, 3:28 PM > > > >  > > > > Despite the reservations described in my earlier post, my Endocrinologist has persuaded me to come off Spironolactone with a view to running a number of tests, including eventually AVS, in order to explore the possibilites for surgery. > > I have taken Spiro for some years (50 mg a day) can I expect any symptoms when I go " cold turkey " next week? Guest guest
Have you been DX with PA? Might want to see about getting the PET scan. Belive this is done on all meds. > > > > > > From: Alan <alanttt3@> > > Subject: About to go " cold turkey " on Spironololactone - what can I expect? > > hyperaldosteronism > > Date: Thursday, March 15, 2012, 3:28 PM > > > > > > > >  > > > > > > > > Despite the reservations described in my earlier post, my Endocrinologist has persuaded me to come off Spironolactone with a view to running a number of tests, including eventually AVS, in order to explore the possibilites for surgery. > > > > I have taken Spiro for some years (50 mg a day) can I expect any symptoms when I go " cold turkey " next week? Guest guest
1. If you are doing well why change horses? is my advice.2. Most will return in a few days if on a usuals high salt diet. The more DASHing your are the slower they will return. If at all.3. We do not know details of original Dx of Conn's. Please give them in using the story chapters I just sent if you have not already done them.4. If you have Conn's and are DASHing well you should not need 28 10.0 mg Bisoprolol Fumerate tablets (one per day): does not work in PA and can cause wheezing etc (note you are on Ventolin).> 84 4.0 mg Doxazosin tablets (three per day) Not a good BP med and increases risk of CHF-see the ALLHAT studies. But may still be used if needed. > 28 32.0 mg Candesartan tablets (one per day) Will not work in PA. See my evolution of PA article.> 28 50.0 mg Spirononlactone tablets (one per day) not very much. have you been on more?> 28 200.0 mcg Moxonidine tablets (one per day) not sure if it works well in PA. >> 56 20.0 mg Omeprazole capsules (one per day)ld n> Have you ever been tested for OSA.200 Solpadol Capsules (maximum 8 per day) Do not know what Solpadol is or what it is for.> Two Ventolin inhalers (as required) Is this for COPD or asthama or what?On Mar 15, 2012, at 4:15 PM, Bingham wrote:From: Alan <alanttt3@...>Subject: About to go "cold turkey" on Spironololactone - what can I expect?hyperaldosteronism Date: Thursday, March 15, 2012, 3:28 PM Despite the reservations described in my earlier post, my Endocrinologist has persuaded me to come off Spironolactone with a view to running a number of tests, including eventually AVS, in order to explore the possibilites for surgery.I have taken Spiro for some years (50 mg a day) can I expect any symptoms when I go "cold turkey" next week?
