Guest guest
Hollie, I wish there were a movie or book. I know that Jenn and Russ are working on a book about Scoliosis and casting, but there really is nothing else out there that I know about. I didn't realize your child has a tethered cord. My son had one as well and had his released last Feb '09. We were only in the hospital overnight and he walked out of the hospital the next day. Just remember to keep him as flat on his back as you can for as long as possible. What hospital is he having the surgery? Let me know if you need to talk or have any questions. my email address is hayro1611@.... I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find some sort of book or movie for my son's class at daycare. He is going to be in the hospital all next week having surgery on his tethered spinal cord. He will also be out of daycare for recovery for an entire month. Then we will start casting. He is only 19 months so I'm looking for some type of movie that has kids with casts or even kids in the hospital so that his class can understand why he is gone and so they will have a heads-up on the cast. Thanks!Hollie mommy of Jonas 66.2 degree curve surgery for tethered cord April 21st. Guest guest
Hi Hollie, Our local hospital offers books for Infanitle Scoliosis and I think the Zoey one is great for young children. The child has a brace (not cast) but it's still very good - not to mention the only thing out there that I could find. I know there's others on the group that have ordered them to. They are free of charge. Guest guest
Joan~ Jonas is having his surgery at OU Children's hospital in Oklahoma City. They told me he would be in the PICU (ped. int. care unit) for 48 hrs and then in a regular room for about a week. They said we have to wait about a month before we can begin casting to ensure the wound is healed. How long after surgery was your son about to be casted? > > Hollie, I wish there were a movie or book. Guest guest
We are working on a book to help kids understand casting and how it helps a spine grow straight. http://docs.google.com/View?id=dcvwf9ps_61f77pwfcs -- this is the text. http://web.me.com/jennifer.leggett/Site/Story_Fundraiser_files/Cole%20and%20the%\ 20Cooked%20Flower.pdf are the images we have done. We have about 11 illustrations left. Hopefully the book will be ready to sell and distribute this summer. Guest guest
Thank you Cyndy. I am actually having a lot of family from Texas coming up for the surgery. And I actually live in Tuttle. Maybe when this all dies down (or when I'm stuck at home) for a month we could meet up. I would love to know your child's story. It would be great for Jonas to meet someone else with scoliosis!! > > > > > > Hollie, I wish there were a movie or book.
